There is this saying that has been bandied about, most especially by motivational speakers and positivity coaches, and it is the fact that money can’t buy happiness. Personally, I believe that is a total lie and it is designed to give people a false sense of reality. Everything in life has a price, and happiness is no exemption. The only thing that might not have a price might be life itself, everything else can be bought and paid for. I am usually surprised when people go about spreading the gospel of money not being able to buy happiness, it is as if they are trying to pass off their lives to others. Wanting other people to view the world through their own lens and come up with the same analogies they have. Sometimes, when I hear people say they would never do some things for money, I only shake my head. The truth is until you are in that position, you will never truly know what you can do. There is the amount of money you will be offered, even the things you never dreamed you could do, you would find yourself doing them. That is the power of money. Money can indeed buy happiness, but money in itself does not bring happiness. Let me explain. Everything in life that we have, we are paying for it. We need money in our jobs, we need money in our families, and we even need it in our places of worship. The only thing we do not pay for these days is the air we breathe, and there are even some people that are denied that privilege. In the olden days, it was very possible to survive without money, all you needed was food and a place to sleep. Every other thing could take care of itself. As a matter of fact, there was even a time when it was illegal for some people to have money. It was only for the noble of the land, and if a peasant were to have money, it would be useless because he would not be able to exchange it for anything. Well, centuries have passed, and money is now the most important thing in the world. So important that people are fighting and killing themselves over it. Nations are tumbling and regimes are falling all because of the thing called money. How God created it, for an average human to be happy, he just had to meet the basic needs of life. And that was feeding, shelter and clothing. When those three were settled, every other thing was a bonus. And then, seeing as money is used to get even the most basic things in life, that is to show you how important it is. So when you can get yourself a decent house, good food, and nice clothes, logically, you are meant to be happy. Happy in this context might not mean jumping around and screaming for joy. It could very well mean just being content with what you have even while hoping for more. Then, other things will now be taken care of, from schooling to transport and what have you? Everything will be taken care of by money, they can be taken care of only by money. Nothing else will pay the bills when they smack you in the face. And that is how money buys happiness. Money in itself does not bring happiness, you can only get that happiness when you use the money to get something else that will make you happy. When you buy a house, it’s the house that will make you happy, not the money you spent purchasing it. Money is like the messenger, it goes where we send it. There are people who pin their happiness on money, they believe that by accumulating so much of it, they will be able to live how they want and be happy for the rest of their lives. But that is not how it works, when you heap all your hopes and happiness on money, you are only setting yourself up for disappointment. And this is because you will never know when to stop making the money, you will never want to stop. While the money you have in your bank is finite, money as a whole is infinite to an extent. Governments of the world are always printing more and more of them, how can the world run out? So there will always be money around, and you will never be able to get enough for you to be happy. You will always be looking forward to that next thing you will do that will land you that big contract. And things like this can rob us of our happiness. So, my dear friends, what am I trying to say here? Money does buy happiness, we need it so we can do happy things. After all, you’ve never seen someone happy when their child was starving or ill, or a parent happy when their child is sent from school because of failure to pay the fees. These are all issues that are solved by money. We just need to learn that no matter how important money is, we should never lose our souls to it. Because that will be when we would be truly gone. So out there and continue your hustle. Make loads of money, not because you want it to make you happy. But because you have something worthwhile to do with the money. Keep on piling it up, and be sure to always remain in charge. That is the only advice I have. For now.
