I guess something like this was bound to happen eventually, it was only a matter of time. Every Nigerian right now is suffering from terrible network conditions. And the funny thing is that it’s not just Nigeria, it’s also happening in Ghana, South Africa, and a bunch of other countries.
Apparently, some undersea cables got damaged and that’s what’s responsible for the disruption of the network. MTN seems to be the worst hit by these, but other network providers are not doing any better either. And so far, it’s just been a frustrating couple of days for us as we’ve been trying to access the internet and failing miserably.
For someone like me who relies solely online for my daily bread, you have no idea how upsetting it has been for me. To the point that it seems everything that has to do with work isn’t working but other things were. WhatsApp and Facebook are working just fine, but Discord refuses to load messages. Some websites on Chrome are working fine, but Peakd and Hive.blog just keep refusing to load. My mobile bank app won’t work but the music app is working just fine and disturbing me with pointless ads.
It’s as if the network just handpicked the things that are important to me and decided to cut them off while leaving me with others. At this point, I’ve refreshed my browser to the point of utmost freshness, I don’t think I’ll ever be caught unfresh again. In the same way, I’ve turned on my airplane mode feature so much that you might as well call me a pilot.
This just shows how important the internet is to us and how dependent we have come to be on it. This is the reason why we spend thousands every month on data plans that are nothing but highway robberies. That is why no matter how terrible things get, we’ll still buy data. More and more data, because we simply can’t do without the internet. That’s one major fact of life.
Not just for those of us working online, but also for people offline as well. The internet is also a good place to escape from a lot of the rubbish that happens in real life. It gives people the opportunity to be totally different from who they are in real life. That’s why a shy and kind person can come online to be a rude and aggressive keyboard warrior. The internet brings out the best and the worst in us.
Anyway, it’s all good. For something on such a big scale, I know that it’ll be fixed soon. After all, the company is losing profits for every second people are not browsing, and again the fact that it’s not a local problem but an international one, will speed up the process and make them fix it faster.
However, one has to wonder sha, what could possibly cause such damage to an undersea cabling? I don’t think a megalodon was swimming past and decided to have a feast, or maybe Mammy Water didn’t like the cost of the data plans her marine kingdom was paying, and decided to scatter everything.
I don’t know, and honestly, I don’t care. I just want it to be fixed so I can get back to my work and get my groove back. That’s all that matters to me right now. Hopefully, before this weekend is over, it’ll be a different story on the lips of everyone affected by this.
I don’t even know when I’ll be posting this. But then, if you’re reading this, it probably means I’ve seen a temporary solution to this menace. I don tire!!

I was at Starstring's yesterday and he got frustrated with how the whole internet stuff was. He even tried using his 5G router but it could not help him this time around, the 5G was loading like 2G. I use glo and it wasn't that bad until I got home and was abiut to publish a post... I tarried😂
It affected a lot of people yesterday and I am so sure some didn't have it nice at all. I overheard a guy explaining to his friend how he had finished eating in a restaurant here in school and when it was time to make transfer for payment, he couldn't do nothing. I guess helped him pay with cash.
Maybe it's because their monthly sub seems like a weekly sub.
Omo... that 5g ish is just a scam biko, it makes no difference at all. I've used it before and I was thankful I didn't buy it myself. This post I made took me about three solid hours, and I couldn't even make a thumbnail, or post pictures as I would have liked. I just gave up and posted it.
That's how bad it was.
3 hours is a stress o. I use Glo network but it was war for me to post because it also became annoyingly slow. I hope you've found a solution to browse faster, if not, check @olujay post. He wrote today about using X vpn to browse faster.

I thought I was the only one that got affected yesterday. It wasn't funny at all. But thanks to Airtel network that saved me and I was able to do something at last. I believe that it will be fixed and it will also come back stronger.

Nigerians will always find a way to make joke about things are pretty annoying. Honestly, I was so pissed yesterday that I just abandoned my phone to do other things.
The most annoying part was that the apps are didn't need were working fine but the important ones just refuse to load. I hope it gets resolved soon, we can't continue like this.
Yesso! It's funny how Whatsapp was working fine but Discord wasn't even loading. Facebook was working, but when you click on a link that'd take you out of the app, it doesn't work. Just annoying!
It has been crazy since Wednesday but I’m just glad that it didn’t go off totally so we can still manage to do important things. It’s crazy though and I could not finish my online tasks very early
But Nigerians will always want to be happy so when we are going through tough times, we still find a way to calm the mind
Yesso! if it went off totally things would have been way worse. I don't know what people will do if they're disconnected from network for such an amount of time.
I noticed many people were discussing about the network issue but I wasn't aware about the exact reason. Finally by reading your post I get the news what actually happened.
I think staying without internet or having internet issue is one of the worst situation in this digital world.
Apparently, some rebels damaged it (so I've heard. This is not verifiable yet).

A few days ago, my internet was also working in the same way, so it's a lot of trouble. Governments should talk to the internet companies that the internet speed is fast, otherwise the way people have to do online work is slow. Not even on the internet at all.
I don't think the government would care about such things, at least not my government.
it's just tiring.
