We make plans on saving money, but in the end, the money ends up saving us. This has been the predicament of many people, and we all have the same question: Why me!

Let us leave 2025 first; I am still coming back to it. This year is just six days old, and I am already running into some unplanned expenses. First, it was my laptop that suddenly started blinking on Jan 3rd. The screen light went off, and the screen was flickering. It is not something I can close and lock away because it is my money-making machine, so I called my engineer, and he asked me to video record and send it to him. Fortunately, when I switched on the laptop, the problem was gone, and I was happy I won't have to spend any money on fixing it that day, and also hoped it could last me some months before it showed such a problem again.
It was as if the village people were not done with me cos the next day, my phone battery was drained and refused to charge. No matter what I did, it would not turn on; the battery was already out of service. I know this already cos I have been using it for a good five years... I had no other choice but to go and get a new battery and fix it.
I was able to get the battery for 16 000 Naira, but the vendor could not fix it cos the phone has never been opened. I bought it brand new 5 years ago, so I had to take it to another shop, and that was where I was told, we have normal and original Iphone battery and the one I bought was the normal, oh well I didn't care much cos the original was selling for 30 000 Naira, He charged me 7000 Naira to fix it, which makes the total amount spent to be 23 000 Naira.
Well, since then, no other problem has surfaced, but it is just 6 days to this freaking 2026, and I don't know which other expenses will surface anytime.
I spent a lot last year, the baby things alone were above a million, but since we are to talk about only one thing that we bought that is expensive, that would be my baby wardrobe.

The wardrobe cost me 240 000 Naira, and it is a necessity unless I want the baby's stuff scattered all around the house, which will make everywhere look unkempt...
After it was done, I felt it was too plain, so we designed it with stickers, which makes it more beautiful... All the baby stuff, like clothes, cream, and every every are packed in there now... all the spaces are useful, the upper part is where we kept some of the things we bought that seem useless now.
One of those things is the food Warmer; it is a waste of time to use it to warm his food for 30 minutes when one can just use a kettle to boil water, which is faster! also my baby is now doing exclusive feeding, so the bottles are not useful now and may not be useful again, so all are packed up there.

Making plans for the unexpected should be a normal thing to us, because unexpected things happen to us all the time. That's why a book I read talked about considering contingencies when making any plan.
So when making plans for a new year one should consider things that might derail that plan. That way, nothing or few things take you by surprise and you'll always be prepared for them.
Infact, to be safe, assume that the worst can happen anytime and plan against it.
Well, you put the money in the right places, even though it wasn't according to your plans. Your phone and laptop are definitely important, and even more important is you baby. Investing in him or her is one of your highest priorities. Happy new year.
My laptop and phone are one thing I can't joke with cos without them, no way to earn money, so when it comes to buying or fixing things, they are my top priority...
