RE: Topcomment weekly curation report (week 40)

in Hive Learners • 13 days ago

Hello @friendlymoose, thank you for the clear answer! 🙏

I have already read your guidelines, thank you. You are right about the AI signs: English is not my first language and I get help with writing and translating. I explain why very clearly in this post: The Power of AI: 40 Years of Code, One Hectare of Soil. In short, I use AI as a pen and a translator: the ideas, the hard work and the muddy hands are mine. 🌱

And it is not new for me: already 40 years ago, as a young programmer at the beginning of my career at the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, I was using code generators. Tools change, but the ideas are still mine. 💻

From now on I'll write shorter and more personal comments, only on blogs I have really read.

Thanks for what you do for the community, and good work! 🐝

Sort:

There are some people that reply in their own language. There are translation tools enough. And some add a comment in both their native language as a translated version.
Our topcomment curators translate and curate comments from other languages as well.

The thing is, we cannot tell if someone used AI to translate their own comment or had it generate the comment for them.

Thank you @friendlymoose, this is very clear and fair. 🙏

To be transparent: I often write my ideas in Italian and I use AI to translate and polish them in English. Sometimes it also helps me read long posts and suggest wording. I understand that from the outside you cannot tell the difference.

So I'll do this: when a comment is important I'll write it in Italian with an English translation below, as some users do. Would that be fine for you? 😊

I'm not a native English speaker either. I use AI to find words and sentences, so that is totally understandable. But AI also often suggests things I wouldn't have said like that myself.
Personally I'd rather receive a genuine comment in English that isn't perfect than an AI generated one. The human touch is very important.

I think posting in two languages is a good solution. A lot of Spanish Hivers also do it that way.

Have a great day! Ciao!

Thank you @friendlymoose, I respect your preference. 🙏 The human touch is important.

From now on I will write my comments first in Italian and have them translated by software, so the words and the ideas are really mine. Below you can open my original message in Italian.

Ciao ciao!

Original message

Grazie @friendlymoose, rispetto la tua preferenza: il tocco umano è importante. Da ora in poi scriverò prima in italiano e lo farò tradurre da un software, così le parole e le idee saranno davvero mie. Qui sotto trovi il mio messaggio originale in italiano.

Ciao ciao!
