Thanks everyone for engaging!

If you want to have a mention when you are on this list or want to be mentioned in every weekly update post from @topcomment, just let me know in the comment section!

Which comments can get upvotes and which don't?

Which comments are eligible for upvotes and which are not?
Not all nominated comments will receive an upvote from Topcomment. While the concept of "quality" is subjective, there are a few key factors I consider when deciding whether to upvote a comment. Additionally, there are certain reasons why even a well-written comment might not be upvoted.

Here are the current guidelines:

Do's

1. Put effort in the comment
Be sure you have put some effort in creating a longer comment. There is no exact number, but a comment that is just a few words long won't get upvoted.

2. React to the content of the blog
The comment should be a thoughtful response to the blog post. It must engage with the content and provide meaningful interaction with the author’s ideas. It shouldn't be a reply telling your own story.

No upvotes for

1. Comments with hate speech, racism, conspiracy theories or other negative reactions
I strive to keep the community positive. Comments promoting hatred, racism, or conspiracy theories will not be upvoted.

2. Comments from users with Hivewatchers downvotes
I do not want to support scammers or fraudulent activity. If a user has been downvoted by Hivewatchers, I will not upvote their comment.

3. AI-generated comments
These comments will not receive upvotes, as they are not authentic human interactions.

4. Comments that already have significant rewards
If a comment has already received a substantial reward, I will skip the upvote. The same applies to comments that are part of the commentrewarder initiative.

5. Giveaways or contest entries
There are some initiatives asking you to submit your entry in the comments. These are excluded from Topcomment upvotes.

6. Commenting on own blogs
Comments from bloggers on their own blog will not be upvoted. It is only natural that you respond to comments on your own blog.

Supporting Topcomment

You can support Topcomment in several ways. For instance by upvoting and reblogging this weekly curation post.

You can also delegate HP and/or follow our Curation Trail.
Check out the following blog for instructions on how to do that.
https://peakd.com/@topcomment/support-topcomment

Support Topcomment with Delegations

The more delegations Topcomment gets, the higher the rewards we can give away!
And you profit from the delegation as well since we return 80% of the curation rewards to the delegator.
The rewards are sent in the form of liquid Hive on a daily basis. So, supporting Topcomment with a delegation can be really beneficial for you.

You can use the delegation tool to delegate an amount of your choice or select one of the predefined amounts below.

50HP - 100HP - 250HP - 500HP - 750HP - 1000HP - 1500HP

Or you could use the delegation option in the wallet of your favorite front-end. An example of how this works in PeakD is shown below:

Follow the Curation Trail

If you don't want to delegate you can also choose to following the Topcomment voting trail via Hive.Vote.
This way you do support the project and the commenters, but you'll receive the curation rewards yourself. In Hive.Vote you can configure a percentage for the votes.
https://hive.vote/dash.php?trail=topcomment&i=1

Upvote and Reblog

You could help the @topcomment project by upvoting and reblogging this post. The more people know about this initiative, the more it will stimulate engagement on Hive ❤️
The post rewards will be used to support the project!

Mentions

When you are in the top 20 most upvoted Hivers, you get a mention, If you don't want to be mentioned when you are in that list, just leave me a comment.

If you want to get a mention even though you are not in the list, you can also leave me a comment and I'll add you to the following mention list:

Salud y buena fortuna a todo el equipo. Gracias por los frecuentes apoyos.

Thank you @topcomment!!! Thank you so so much always!!! They do a brilliant job, high-quality, handcrafted work that takes time and effort; I really appreciate it!💗💗💗

Thank you very much for considering me; your support is greatly appreciated.
Blessings!🙏💗

Hola muchas gracias por el apoyo.

Thanks a lot dear friends @topcomment 😊 ☺️

Most humble thanks! 🙏

Thank you so much, Hive Fam! 😍

Thank you for this weekly report, @topcomment! 🙌 I think it is an excellent tool for curation and engagement: rewarding thoughtful comments, with manual review to keep abuse out, is exactly what makes conversations on Hive worth reading. 💬 71 comments curated in one week and almost 6,700 since December 2024 is a great result, congratulations to the whole team and to the curators! 👏

I've given my small contribution with a small delegation, and I like that most of the curation rewards come back to the delegators as liquid HIVE every day: it is a very Hive way of supporting the community. 🐝

Here from the hills of the Marche, in Italy, I'll keep trying to write comments with real effort, and maybe one day one of them will be nominated! 😄🌿

A question: what do you think makes the difference between a good comment and a comment that deserves a @topcomment upvote? 🤔

Hello Matteo!
Thanks for all the compliments and your delegation. Every delegation counts towards a big stake that helps supporting engagement!

Regarding your question:

A question: what do you think makes the difference between a good comment and a comment that deserves a @topcomment upvote? 🤔

We have some quidelines on which comments we do and which we don't upvote.
These are lined out in a post. You can find the link in this blog.

But in short, we avoid upvoting comments on sensitive topics (war, religion, politics, conspiracies etc.) because we don't want to pick a side in those discussions. We also look for signs of AI use (your comment does show some signs of that as well by the way). Overall, a comment should show that they the commenter has actually read the blog and respond to it in a meaningful way. There is also a minimum length requirement. “Great blog, I also have a dog!” isn't a topcomment 😀

Keep on engaging!

Hello @friendlymoose, thank you for the clear answer! 🙏

I have already read your guidelines, thank you. You are right about the AI signs: English is not my first language and I get help with writing and translating. I explain why very clearly in this post: The Power of AI: 40 Years of Code, One Hectare of Soil. In short, I use AI as a pen and a translator: the ideas, the hard work and the muddy hands are mine. 🌱

And it is not new for me: already 40 years ago, as a young programmer at the beginning of my career at the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, I was using code generators. Tools change, but the ideas are still mine. 💻

From now on I'll write shorter and more personal comments, only on blogs I have really read.

Thanks for what you do for the community, and good work! 🐝

There are some people that reply in their own language. There are translation tools enough. And some add a comment in both their native language as a translated version.
Our topcomment curators translate and curate comments from other languages as well.

The thing is, we cannot tell if someone used AI to translate their own comment or had it generate the comment for them.

Thank you @friendlymoose, this is very clear and fair. 🙏

To be transparent: I often write my ideas in Italian and I use AI to translate and polish them in English. Sometimes it also helps me read long posts and suggest wording. I understand that from the outside you cannot tell the difference.

So I'll do this: when a comment is important I'll write it in Italian with an English translation below, as some users do. Would that be fine for you? 😊

Matteo - Ca' Paradiso, Cagli 🌿
www.caparadiso.com

!PIZZA !ALIVE !LOLZ

I'm not a native English speaker either. I use AI to find words and sentences, so that is totally understandable. But AI also often suggests things I wouldn't have said like that myself.
Personally I'd rather receive a genuine comment in English that isn't perfect than an AI generated one. The human touch is very important.

I think posting in two languages is a good solution. A lot of Spanish Hivers also do it that way.

Have a great day! Ciao!

Thank you @friendlymoose, I respect your preference. 🙏 The human touch is important.

From now on I will write my comments first in Italian and have them translated by software, so the words and the ideas are really mine. Below you can open my original message in Italian.

Ciao ciao!

Original message

Ciao ciao!
