MY FIRST MAJOR EXPENSE.

in Hive Learnerslast year (edited)

I always like to think of myself as someone who can handle her personal bills without asking help from anyone. I started early. I am very big on saving and financial freedom. Taking money steps and shrugging, letting it go when it turns sour is something I do not bat an eyelid over. I've got myself so many significant different things that it's hard trying to figure which was first. Material items might not count here because if they do, I'll not run out of items to count.

The idea of working and making money is so we could spend it on ourselves and not just the basic necessities but luxury too. I'm quite frugal in spending, quick to churn out mere wants and splurge based on need.

And for everytime I spent my money, I got value in return. I have been getting myself things that wede/are of much importance to me for as long as I can remember. Besides, who buys something not of value to them? And whoever having the wherewithal, denies themself something of benefit?

So like I stated earlier, I stated saving and paying for things for myself very early. They were not from my salary. I had not started working then. They were from cash gifts and the stipends I recieved.

Because I don't remember things as I should and because this may certainly not be the first but it's a big one for me, I'll tell you this...

For a long time after my high school final exams, I wasnt working. I had been at home all the while. With higher institute not working and with me bored of living the same routine day-in day-out without any little development, I decided is was going to get a skill. It was common practice to get a job right after high school but the jobs around were just not it. I resolved to learn a handiwork and the most interesting to me at the time was Nail Art. Funny thing here, not minding that I knew the basics about hairstyling, I chose nails making. Particularly because I saw it as a quick work and nothing too popular like it's counterparts(it was only after a few weeks that I realized I was wrong).

And because I did not want to bother anyone with the responsibility of footing the bills, plus I had some cash(which I wasn't sure was enough), I looked around for a place to enroll in which fortunately was owned by an older friend's friend. I told this my older friend my plan and the cash I had at hand, she spoke to her other friend, they settled fees and viola, that was it.

I resumed.
It was quite an interesting job that taught me even more about color balancing and how to just be creative on nails. My boss also made things easiern with how supportive and patient she is. And that was it.

We cannot underplay the importance and need for skills especially in a country like mine. That was one big stride I took for myself. Cost me a lot at the time but it's worth it. Thinking of it now, for that little money I put in, I now have a skill I could never lose. A skill that can fetch me so many times the amount I put in. Since after my training, I know how far I have come - I should also mention that I did not see my training through due to issues of insecurity. But I can tell that I have gotten to a moderate level.

This is the earliest I can remember . There's been a how of others after that, some way bigger, some not but this was one that left a send in my purse, all to my advantage. But do you know what it means to make your first money and spend it on you or anyone else? The pride alone!!!....

I'm glad I took that leap when I did cause considering his things played since then, I may not have acquired for myself a skill thereby putting to no use that period.

Everyone is constantly on their toes. It's like walking on eggshells. You can't afford to be too comfortable lest something unexpected happens.

I just hope things get good(better is a long walk).

Not everyone can be patient enough to learn, but you were able to do that and finally it pays off...is good to know you can save up for money and you re not a frugal type it will help you alot in future. Nice post.

Yeah. Learning like every other thing takes time and patience. Maybe because I paid with my own money, I couldn't afford to let it go to waste. I'm glad it went well.

Mehn I think you were super motivated to really look after your self. But either way I think you did the best thing by not putting your care in someone’s hands. Am happy it worked out for you at the end.

I love nail polishing a lot. I think it makes the hands look very beautiful. Just that I don’t think I will have the patience to learn nail fixing and polishing.

It’s good to be independent even though it’s hard lol.

I just learned early enough to not bother others with my problems. They have theirs too. Plus it's embarrassing to me.

Nail polishing is such nice job. Learning doesn't take so much time neither does the actual job. It's a sharp-sharp kind of trade.

Independence is hard, it's good and it's everything in between.

Yep actually I admire women who are into nails stuff. What amazing me is how they are able to combine the colours to make the nails so beautiful.

It prevents you from experiencing some sheeje things😂.

The world Is full of problems. Our parents and loved ones are also having their personal challenges, I don't think is it right for us to sit down their and expect them to provide all for us since we all have what it takes to do so.

With what you wrote from your first paragraph, I understood plainly that you are an independent and resourceful woman. Anyone that marries you is sure to succeed in life😁😁

We need to come through for our parents when we can. They're trying. Besides, why hold back on something that would be most beneficial to you?

It feels so good to earn for yourself
And the country that we are doesn't support sitting at home and wait for someone to pay your bills unless you want to turn into a beggar

And there is this good feeling about earning for yourself because you have absolute control over the case from the one you have to wait to get from your parents

In this country, every one has to get on their feet. No one would come through for someone else as much as they will for themselves.

Thst feeling is just indescribable.
Pride and fulfillment best describes it.

Paying by yourself to acquire a skill is quite a huge thing for me and I can tell that you made the right choice because nails and anything that had to do with beauty is very lucrative in the world.

This is an inspirational story for many ladies today who just want to be fed, you have equipped yourself for the future

It was so much for me considering I was just in my mid teens. I may not currently be practicing the trade but I have the skill and if called upon, I know what to do.
It's just bliss.

even though you didn't have a job at that time but you managed to save money from your benefits, and managed to buy some useful things for you, I'm sure you have a good attitude towards saving from an early age because this will have a big impact on your expenses

There is a big pride when you pay for something with your money and it gives you a sense of responsibility too.
