TOUGH TIMES CALL FOR TOUGHER DECISION

in Hive Learners2 months ago

Every human being goes through a tough time at any stage in life, going through a tough time does not make that the end of life, and that doesn't make someone a failure, the ability to overcome all these obstacles makes you stronger and also gives you a story to tell.

I would love to share one of my toughest times that shaped my life and also made me stronger.

This happened in 2016 when I was in 200 level, I was at home for break and was about to go back to school because the break was coming to an end, one evening I got a call from one of my friends, he was also planning to go back to school the following week, we spoke about the break and how he spent the holiday, I was about to end the call when he mentioned the new Ponzi scheme that everyone is into now, he told me how to doubled my money in two weeks, I believed most of us gear about MMM that year.

I disagree with him totally because I do not have any spare money to use for that, my brother will always say do not risk the money that is valuable to you, always use the one that will never pain you if the process fails, I remembered my brother adage and said no to his offer bluntly.

Not too long, that same day one of my brother's friends came visiting and was telling my brother about it and he said he had already invested in it and he had cash out, I heard their conversation and I decided to give it a try.

I went back to school the following week and I called my friend who told me about it, he said he had invested his school fees and I should do the same, he said he was withdrawing that week, I was giving it a thought if I should do it or not but later I decided to do it.

My friend withdrew his money then I was very interested in doing it, I invested all my school fees in it and was expecting to cash out the next week, I was so sure that the money would be doubled at the end of the following week.

The following week came and I told the agent in charge of my account that I wanted to place a withdrawal, she told me that the system was down and that I should wait for a few days, this started when it was my turn to withdraw, and the payment for school fees is coming to an end the following week as well.

I was disturbed and told the agent to give me my capital that I did not need the interest anymore, all I wanted was to just pay my school fees before the deadline, I started having sleepless nights, and I was unable to concentrate in class because I know what my mother went through before getting that money for me, no one to assist.

How will I tell my mother that I used my school fees for Ponzi, I know that can cause illness because I know her nature, I called the agent again and she said they were going on holiday and that they would rectify everything after the holiday, this marks the beginning of my sufferness.

I began to call people that I knew and every one of them turned me down, I started entering hostels to wash clothes and gather money, how much do students wash clothes? it was just Peanut who couldn't go anywhere, my friend introduced me to a caretaker (people in charge of houses) then I started cleaning houses, mopping the floors of new houses, and scraping the spilled paint on the tiles.

I did this work for months before I could gather my school fees, the portal was closed then I needed to pay a late fee because of my covetousness, I was lagging behind in my studies because most times I would be at work just to meet up.

LESSON LEARNED

I learned my lesson the hard way, I learned to be satisfied with the little I have, I know investment is good but I should not take the risk that would send me to my early grave, I became lean that period that people do ask me what was wrong but I couldn't open up because of my greediness.

This is my entry for this week's episode of the hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w101e2 which is tagged "TOUGH TIME"

Wow, I had to sit up to read this.
Well MMM took everyone by surprise, only few people didn't invest in that ponzi scheme. It was an eye opener into the Ponzi world as everyone learnt a lesson about investment the hard.
Really sorry you had to go through all that

One thing I tell myself is to always say no to ponzi.

Ponzi is very interesting and the promises is catchy but no matter the goodies it has to offer,I will never invest.

I'm glad you learnt your lessons

There are so many legit investments that are worth it but never depend on Ponzi scheme, it can crash at any time and then you will be left with nothing, please learn from me, do not take risks on Ponzi

Thank you

Tough times do come to people in different shades and colours.

A lot of people fell victim to that MMM of a thing. You suffered for a while, but I am sure you learnt a vital lesson.

My dear, suffering was just an understatement, I saw the gate of hell just that it was not opened for me then, I learned in a very hard way

Two thoughts. One, I completely agree with your final philosophy of only using money that is not important for something else. Two, I appreciate your hard work on making things work out somehow. It is clear that your work ethic and capacity to work things out on your own are very strong. You are one tough dreemer :)

Thank you though Ponzi opened my eyes when there was no how to pay my school fees than to work hard and get it back, I learned from it though and I am stronger than who I used to be

😆😆 this was funny and at the same time a bad moment for you. I laughed because I almost got into such thing but God saved me. In my case, I was into the system and was cashing out. I wanted to increase my level to earn more. My sister promised to send my school fees, then I was in 300 level. I called my younger sister to lend me so that when my big sis send me the money, would return it back to her.

My dear, she sent me the money but I couldn't sleep that night, thinking and imagining the worst scenario that might happen. I quickly forwarded the money back to her that it was of no use. Do you believe it was that same week the system crashed? A lot of people cried in the WhatsApp group when their money was gone. Someone even borrowed and invested a million naira, and that was the end.

I was just thanking God that day 🙌
My dear, tough times do teach us lessons and we keep learning from our mistakes.
