THE SWIMMER ON MY BUCKET LIST

in Hive Learners26 days ago

Water is one thing that I have always appreciated. But interestingly, I don’t know how to swim and that’s not because I’m scared of water or something but just because I was never free to be around water for a long time to give me the chance to learn how to swim. I appreciate seeing people who know how to swim. I have always been the stay at home person and that makes it even harder for me to learn. The last time I went to the river was when I was around 5 years old and I didn’t do much swimming but I remember I loved the feeling of being inside the water. And anytime I remember that feeling, I keep promising myself to learn how to swim.

For the hivelearners topic, we are asked to share our experiences on THE SWIMMER. Like you would have already guessed that I’m no swimmer. The people I have lived with never encouraged me to chase my need for learning to become a swimmer. They will always discourage me with so many stories of how water has taken the lives of people and that has made me just let that desire to die down waiting for a good opportunity to learn how to swim. I was actually hoping to meet a friend who could teach me how to swim but since I’m not the out going type, I still haven’t been able to trust anyone enough to go out with them to a swimming pool to teach me.

Over the years of hearing about people that have lost their lives while swimming despite the fact that they were once good swimmers, that has slowly nurtured this fear in me. Yes, I’ll love to learn how to swim but it is definitely going to take some time because I’m yet to fully trust anyone or see anyone that I can truly rely on to teach me how to swim. Usually, I see more of guys that are willing to teach me how to swim but I decline the offers because they most times want something else that I’m not interested in. And sadly, most of my female friends are not into swimming either so you can see that I’m just not lucky enough to get myself a good swimming coach that I know personally.

I might probably end up paying a professional to teach me how to swim but that will be when I’m done with my BSc. It is something that has always been on my bucket list to achieve but I haven’t really been very intentional about it. I’m going to start working towards it more intentionally and hopefully I’ll be able to learn it few months after bagging my BSc. And I also have plans of learning how to drive and ride a bike if possible too. I’ll probably take all the lessons almost at the same time if possible but that of swimming will come first because I’m surrounded by water and I know I need that skill or I’ll be needing it.

Thank you for reading through. 💜

Thank God I'm not only on this boat, but then just like you I want a change and hopefully that'll happen before this year runs out.

Yay! Good luck with it, GP. 🥰

I love swimming. I might not be a good swimmer but atleast I can maintain my balance in a pool. Swimming is really fun. I hope you explore and overcome your fears after your BSc.
