In today's world, it's possible but hard to be invisible and live life anonymously.
We are in the digital age and I will be coming from that angle, the fact that a person is anonymous doesn't mean they are absent or aren't existing. It's just that they might be into certain things and you will never know they are the one in charge. What am saying is, a person can be influential in the Social space, even be an influencer and all, and you will never know their real identity. And this is something a lot of people already do.
I attended a seminar sometimes last year where we are being taught about faceless YouTube and the likes. The host of the program happens to be a very popular figure in the social space, he's a Nigerian and he also runs a faceless YouTube channel. And believe me, nobody knows it was him, yet his channel was a very popular one, even he said that will be the first time he's coming out publicly to admit to it. Also, that same last year, I was on a faceless YouTube channel class with Mark Angel, where he talked about it and all, even he claimed he would have preferred it to this celebrity life that everyone knows him. It did sound strange of a truth, but it is very well possible to have a very good online presence with a lot of followers while remaining anonymous.
A lot of things can be done, especially with the advent of AI. You see people just create videos, tell tales, do music videos and all with AI on their YouTube or various channels, you see various people entertain us online and all, people make use of voiceovers, animations and a whole lot more. And they don't have a name that points to a particular person, you don't see their real pictures or get to know who they are. You just see their work speaking for them, for itself.
And it's not just YouTube, a lot of pages on Facebook, X, Instagram and all are being run by faceless people. Some are popular already, some are growing and more will still come. And I think I love it. It's one I'm even thinking of going into, it might take time, but then it is possible. The only thing people will know is your style, what you do and whatever name you're using, they won't know who exactly it is. You will be able to walk freely on the streets and do everything like you want to without being scared of celebrity tag.
So, it's possible for fame to exist without a physical but a digital body. And being anonymous does not mean one is scared, weak and such, but it comes with freedom and protection. A very popular blogger who had been anonymous for a very long time finally revealed his face sometimes ago, he acts as a whistle blower, calls out people, and do diverse things then, but when he revealed his face, a lot of people condemned it, saying he should have remained anonymous and be doing his thing, cause he might no longer enjoy the freedom and protection he has before. So, being visible also has its risk.
It's not that easy to be invisible, there are still certain risks attached with it and mistakes may happen. The world is advanced and a lot of things can be used to track one. But then, I think it's still possible to be anonymous to some extent, or let's say, depending on what you do.
