When we hear anything natural, we always picture it to be good, fresh things, like fresh fruits, fresh air, and even herbs. The world itself is alone to make you feel safe... natural. We all have older people at home, and we know how much they trusted and believed in anything that's fresh, or let's say natural. They so much prefer the bark of trees for their herbs, they love foods that are directly from the farm, and even to us younger ones, we see anything natural as being right.
But then, is it really true?
Now, everything natural is not really good. In short, the fact that it's natural doesn't make it good/healthy/right. Yes. An orange for example...we all know it's natural and good for the body. Now, in the same light, we have a poisonous mushroom... isn't it also natural? A lot of examples could be cited for both. We have a lot of natural but harmful things all around us. The belief that everything natural is safe can endanger. Of a truth, nature is beautiful, no doubt about that, but then nature has its own dangers too. And maybe that's what makes it beautiful. 🤞
Let's talk about medications as well. Back then, what people used mostly were herbs gotten from various leaves and bark of trees. And we can't deny the fact that those herbs work, and some even became the starting point for modern medications. Herbs as well, if not well supervised and used wrongly, can be harmful. So what happens? Science stepped in to study these natural remedies, know what each contains, know which can be paired together, and all. And that's how we came about these vaccines, pills, and the like. In the traditional sense those things aren't natural, they are artificial, but then without them many of us would not be alive today.
There are some areas in which the artificial looks better and more right than the natural. Let's check out the environment by today, people. Then do use wood and charcoal to cook, but then that's deforestation. I happen to be an agric student and I understand certain things to some extent. Cutting trees goes beyond destroying forests; it affects us as well. Aside from that, what about the smoke it emits, which affects our lungs? Now, we have electric, solar, and the likes, today we now recycle a lot of things and we can't deny that they help protect the planet more than the natural.
Personally, I feel both are tools. There are times that the natural way is best, for example instead of going for this processed snacks and such, and there are times it's better to go the artificial way, such as taking vaccines, filtering water and the likes.
Just because something is natural doesn’t make it automatically good. And just because because something is artificial doesn't make it bad. We should only be concerned about if it does help, if it protects and all.
Is natural right? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The definition of right should be that which keeps us safe, healthy and also good for the world we live in. Nature should be respected, and science on the other hand isn't something to be scared of. Both has to go hand in hand to give us the best.
