Still Worth It? The True Value of Degrees in 2025

in Hive Learnerslast month

One of the most talked about questions today is whether getting a degree is still worthwhile? Standing in 2025, we see that technology, online learning and skill development have changed our lives in such a way that many people are wondering whether a university degree alone is enough to build our careers?

I will tell you from my personal experience. Just last week, I was calculating some statistics while preparing a report in the office. That's when the rule of finding percentages of numbers learned in school came in handy. It may not be the knowledge of a big degree, but its importance in real life is infinite. This small learning helped me finish the work quickly and accurately.

But the question is, what is the real value of a degree? I think that a degree is not just a ticket to a job, but a basic foundation, where we learn discipline, consistency and problem-solving techniques. But honestly, in today's world, just having a degree is not enough. To survive in the market, you need real experience, technical skills, and a mindset of continuous learning.

I think the school-college system has more room to work here. Beyond just memorizing books and doing well in exams, our schools need to teach how to apply what they learn to real-life problems. For example, financial management, communication skills, teamwork skills, or the use of technology, the true nature of education will emerge only if these are in the classroom.

So is a degree no longer necessary? Absolutely not. A degree still has value, but it is not enough on its own. It is just a kind of first step. Today, a degree needs to be combined with new skills, confidence, and learning habits. Only then can we say that yes, getting a degree is still worth it, but on the condition that it is useful in real life.

A crucial point here dear @mrarhat. We should not just see getting degrees as tickets 🎫 to jobs but basic foundation that will take us through stages of life.

Just like how you were able to tackle that statistics by using the rule of finding parentage.

Getting a degree us more than the Certificate we obtain.

You are absolutely right in saying that if we see a degree only as a ticket to a job, we lose its true value. In fact a degree gives us a foundation that is useful in every step of life. As you said even by learning a small rule and we can solve big problems later. Certificates are just proof but the real power is the knowledge and experience learned which changes our thinking and lifestyle.

Exactly dear friend. Enjoy your weekend 😇

A degree is a stepping stone. What really matters is applied learning.

Your point is really beautifully . A degree is a kind of first step, but the real importance is how much we can apply those lessons in life. If we just stop at reading books, its value is limited, but the real power of knowledge is revealed only when we can apply it in practice.
