MY READING HABIT

in Hive Learners23 days ago

Before I start, let me make a confession to you. I used to be a good lover of books but now I'm very lazy, the last time I read a book I fell asleep before reading to the middle of it. The struggle is real with having school pressure, endless homework and the constant struggle between hunger and bad internet connection so reading a physical book is like a sporting activity that I did not volunteer to be part of.

I used to be a good novel reader in secondary school. I would borrow voluminous books from school and I would enjoy myself with it after
doing my chores at home which made me profound and intellectual especially in my spoken English but when it comes to textbooks on any subject, it gets so boring and uninteresting. However, it gets more worse as I grow up that I don't like reading books at all because of social media, not until I met my mentor who helped me to intentionally build a reading habit.

Sincerely, it is difficult to read physical books nowadays since life is noisy especially in this era of social media, technology and the bad management of our electricity in this my country is not even encouraging.

I can’t even read in peace, when it is not NEPA taking off with the lights, it is the generator of my neighbour making a noise like a wounded lion and even when I can finally get away, I will be reminded by the mosquitoes. I will get to the point of scratching your leg and slapping your arm before I even get to continue reading the book and say, I will do it tomorrow but tomorrow never comes.

However when I met my mentor, he taught me how to read effectively, not just by scanning through the pages but becoming what you are actually reading and that starts from the choice of the books you read. It's very good to read books that answers a question in your heart or in line to what you want to become or see yourself be, that drives the hunger and make you want to get an answer and satisfy your soul on what to do.

He gave me books like "How To Make Friends and Influence People, Ministry and Money Matters, 360 degree Leader, Atomic Habits, Finishing Strong etc. All these books had helped my spiritual, leadership, academic and financial journey.

Although I always like physical books and I will say online book reading is great but it does not strike the same because the distractions involved in online stuff.

My relationship with books is not so good yet but we are both old friends and it is always nice to see one another. Or perhaps that is all it takes, not how many times you read but that you still recall the delight of reading when life finally takes a pause and also use the lessons from the books to make life easier for yourself. In the meantime, I will simply keep reading even if I feel like it or not because there are so much wisdom inscribed in books that I'm yet to encounter them all.

Thank you so much for staying this far, hope you had a good read with me, see you again next time 🤗

you are just like me who loves reading books, but has faded the aspect of reading for some time now. Reading physical books is not just carrying me, but online books can be managable.,
