I love this topic on social media because day by day I begin to wonder what our society is turning into on the internet. If I had the authority to ban any social media platform forever, I would gladly ban Twitter (or X, as the new owner insists that we should call it).
However, this is the same app in which individuals do not just interact, they fight, argue and drag each other until there is smoke on the timeline. I believe that by now if there is a real country called Twitter, the world would be at World War III.
Recently, I can say that Twitter is no longer a social media. It is a boxing ring in which people are wearing gloves composed of grammar and sarcasm, there's new series of battles begin every day.
When someone tweets about how they prefer rice over beans and before you know it ten people are calling them different names, fifteen orhers are telling them they are disrespecting beans farmers and one philosopher is writing a thread called "How rice symbolizes oppression in Africa". You will soon come to understand that peace is not in twitter when you spend a long time there. People can only come together when they are pulling one celebrity or politician and when that occurs my dear, you better not be the one they are dragging because Twitter users can archive your 2010 tweets, when you were still on your Nokia Torchlight, and use it to ruin your life in 2025.
Sometimes I ask questions if twitter was designed to bring the blood pressure of all people higher. You open an account with good intentions, perhaps to read the trending news and then you end up arguing in a heated debate as to whether jollof rice is better than fried rice. You attempt to escape but someone tags you in some other thread. You find yourself wasting four hours justifying your rice preference as a lawyer in court.
Speaking of Twitter influencers, they are professional chatterers of the world wide web. They are judgmental on all things, including those things they do not know whether it is politics, football or even the most recent celebrity issue, they will never be short of one hot cake to shake the timeline, they are able to make a big issue out of a minor issue.
The funniest part is that everybody on Twitter believes that he is smarter than every other person. When you tell a person that the sky is blue, you will be quoted and a written record will be given that it is merely a reflection of the ocean and they will tell you that you are wrong.
No matter how funny you attempt to be, even if it is a joke you will find a person come out of nowhere and analyse your joke like it is a thesis to the doctorate.
You can not even write "Good morning" in peace, somebody will just answer harshly and say "What is good about it?".
The issue of fake news is also worst on Twitter, they propagates rumors as harmattan fire does and by the time the official news agencies are even awake, the news has been reported, exaggerated and concluded on Twitter.
The debate about gender and relationships on Twitter are not arguments but battles. Men will be on one side and women on the other and they will toss insults in the form of tweets saying "Every man is a bastard!", "Every woman a gold-digger!", it is a cycle of bitterness that can never end.
The pressure on Twitter is too much and if it is banned, the world will be a lot more peaceful especially Nigeria. The fact is that, Twitter has granted too many people loudspeakers when they only need a pair of earphones. Each and every person desires to be heard yet no one wants to listen. It is a clamorous market where all are selling hot cakes but no one has shopping sense.
Well, if I am given the authority, I would act upon that red button that reads BAN FOREVER. When Twitter disappears, I think calmness would follow and maybe people would know how to be nice again. Since the world without twitter is the world where you will have time to eat your jollof rice and not a single twitterer would make an announcement about how it is a subject of contention.

Twitter is not just an app, it is a whole continent. Countries have failed to ban that platform, they tried and failed. In fact during elections, opinions polls are developed on twitter before any other social media platforms. It is the only place people can fight tribal wars without being banned. Twitter is not for the weak.
