A Different Route Than Now

Many are the plans in our hearts, but God’s will prevails. This is a scripture that always resonates with my heart and keeps ringing true anytime a plan fails. And all I would say is that God knows best, and yes, He does.

We all have different and beautiful dreams (well, many things we dreamed about which we think were always good), but God always has the best of the best. Yet, along the line, we often go on a different path.

I wouldn’t lie to you, neither would anyone say this is how their lives would have been if they’d gone on a different route, because only God knows the future and how things would turn out. But one thing is sure: we always wanted something different from God’s way.

I was still in SS3 when my dad deemed it fit for me to try writing JAMB to test my intelligence because yes, I was and still am intelligent. I actually sat for the exam and scored 221 (I don’t think I can ever forget this score in my life), even though it was in the year 2009. I chose Unilorin as my first and second choice, but I was disqualified because of 4 marks during the Post UTME. And then, Unilorin doesn't even consider a second choice.

Whenever I remember this experience, I imagine where I would have been if I had gone to the university, let’s say in the year 2010 because Dad was ready to fast-track my WAEC result because of his connection then. But it pained everyone in the family.

I would have graduated in the year 2014 without the ASUU strike, though, and perhaps would have gone for my Master’s then. But just like I said, only God understands everything about us. Who knows if something bad had happened to me then?

Another thing happened in the year 2015 when I graduated from the College of Education. I went to print out my results at a café, and somehow, I got to know that I’d been given admission into the Polytechnic of Ibadan to study Business Administration in the year 2012, and this was during my registration for the College of Education.

I put in for Direct Entry, and when I filled the form, I chose the Polytechnic of Ibadan, the University of Ilorin (but this time, I wasn’t chosen at all), and then the College of Education. But I only saw that I was given admission at the college and didn’t know I got one too at the Ibadan Polytechnic at the same time.

It was when I’d finished that I got to know. I could have regretted it then because I was ignorant and naive about these things, but what calmed me down was that I had already finished college.

Seriously, I think my life would have been different because I wouldn’t have even enjoyed the course I chose, which was Business Administration. I don’t like anything business at all. I only chose it because I was told to, and it could have been a different thing or perhaps I would have been working in a bank or becoming a secretary at an organisation. Who knows?

But I do not regret this life at all. Or do you think I would actually be where I am now? Because whatever has been destined would be, even if it takes years for us to get there. But all I know is that I wouldn’t have known or been on Hive. Yet one thing is definitely sure — I would have gotten married and become a mother. Lol.

The truth is that I might have had some friends different from the ones I have today, and while some would have impacted my life positively, others would have led me in the wrong direction which I would have regretted too. But in everything, God knows the best for us. Or maybe I could have been outside Nigeria. Lol.

Life without education is a journey into motherhood prematurely especially for a girl child

Anyway, thank God for education

Life have a way of making us choose between two difficult choices. I feel like even if you had gotten admission in Polytechnic of Ibadan, I believe there is nothing you put your mind to that you won't succeed even if it means studying a course like business administration.
