You Can’t Avoid Stress, But You Can Master It

Can we truly avoid stress? Stress is inevitable, and it’s part of life; we can’t avoid it. It comes in different forms - from meeting deadlines and accepting responsibilities to managing relationships and making decisions.

The truth is, as long as we are growing, learning, and striving to achieve something meaningful, we will inevitably encounter situations that will shake us. The key is not to avoid stress but to find ways to deal with it healthily.

Can we achieve anything if we choose to avoid things because of stress?

Not really. If we choose to avoid anything because of stress, we might end up avoiding growth itself. Pursuing our education, completing tasks, and building our careers all come with their discomfort. However, what matters is how we approach them. We can face challenges without being consumed by them, especially when we position ourselves, stay organised, and take care of our well-being in the process.

I don’t like anything to stress me. This is why I take my time to find out what could work best, rather than trying to do everything all by myself when I could take things one step at a time. This doesn’t make me lazy, and this is why wisdom is needed.

If you try to do everything by yourself or do it all at once and refuse to take rest or breaks in between, you will eventually break down.

Worry is one thing that often leads to stress in our lives. I don’t have to do everything by myself when I could ask for a helping hand. I don’t have to stress myself when I can divide tasks into smaller parts and handle them one at a time until I’m done.

On many occasions, we hide under the cover of “hustling” to achieve success and neglect to take breaks, and at the end of the day, we add more problems to ourselves. That is why the key isn’t to avoid stress but to manage it wisely.

Here are the practical ways to get the best out of life, and they have proven to be effective for me personally.

Prioritise and Plan: The reason many people experience stress is the inability to prioritise and plan. They suddenly jump on it without having a drafted plan to make things easier. You’d see them saying things like this, “I want to go with the flow.” I admit that I was in this situation before, but not until I learned better.

Not everything deserves our immediate attention. When we tick off what truly matters first and plan our day accordingly, we save ourselves from being overwhelmed by stress and help reduce mental stress.

Delegate tasks: We aren’t machines, and we cannot do everything all by ourselves. This is why delegating is important. Whether we are at home or at work, let’s learn to share responsibilities.

Asking for help isn’t a weakness; it means we are wise. One would say, “But I live alone.” Yes, this is why planning is important and by dividing our tasks into simpler sections. We don’t have to do everything all at once.

Take breaks and rest intentionally: Trust me, if we truly take our health seriously, then we would know how important it is to rest. Besides, the brain cannot keep working like a wall clock. It needs rest to reboot and come back actively.

If we don’t rest, the body will demand it unexpectedly, and what would we do if you develop an illness then? Rest is not a reward but a necessity.

Taking breaks at intervals between work is important. I don’t just sit there all day long or focus on a particular task for long hours and not stand to take breaks while trying to restore myself to give more energy later.

When you notice you are stressed, pause and leave it for some time. This is more reason we don’t have to wait until the deadline is approaching to get things done. This is the power of planning and prioritising earlier rather than later.

In the end, life will come with its challenges, deadlines and responsibilities, but we have the choice to handle them with peace and wisdom. This doesn’t mean we won’t get anything done, but we would surely get something better out of life.

Stress is inevitable but if we plan then the stress may not be too much. Instead of doing everything at once like what you said we need to break them into sections and also it's not a bad thing to ask for help. Nice write-up.

Every challenge in life comes with stress. We can't avoid every challenge as it's unrealistic. Finding the solution is the best way rather than avoiding stress. Again it's also the time to understand the potential of one..
