Tens of millions of people of an entire region suffered immensely, for a very long period of time. Connectivity to the capital was disrupted by one of the roughest and widest rivers in the world. The enormous inconvenience of the people of the southern part of the country, constituted the desire for a bridge. A badly needed bridge. But building such a gigantic bridge over such a challenging river was only a fantasy. An impossible task for an economy like ours. We were in shortage of pretty much everything, specially the huge amount of money and very highly enriched expertise.
Challenges were there and we still could not figure out, what to do and how. But we always had something in our favour— that was our collective desire. A desire shared by a very big number of people,has become stronger and turned into a dream. A dream shared by crores of people and our leadership. Our dream was our driving force to go for the bridge.
The decision was taken by the State to get financial assistance from World Bank and other foreign sources but the unfortunate incident happened— you all know the controversy created by the World Bank.
It was a huge setback— an obstacle as big as an unclimbable mountain. Our big dream got covered by dark cloud.
Here comes the leadership of Bangladesh— She declares: "we will build Padma bridge on our own". With our own money. We will not take anyone's help. The world must see that we can do big things on our own. We are capable.
We got started. Around a decade past— billions and billions of dollars spent— thousands of people working 24/7. Our dream is very much into the reality. Padma bridge is no more a dream— it's a reality. We have done it.
