If I Could Ban One Social Media App for Life

in Hive Learnersyesterday

Social media apps play lots of vital roles in our world and life, and we can't discount their impact on connecting us with not just old friends and recent ones, but also with people whom we won't have crossed paths with assuming these apps don't exist. Aside from the role of connectivity, it also serves as an entertainment hub that lifts the spirit, to the point of eradicating depression and the like. In addition, we can't forget how it has served as a source of livelihood for many who use it and earn in return. However, despite how amazing social media apps are, we can't help but recognize some unpalatable content shared in some of these apps and how it takes a negative toll on users' lives, and that's why I'll be talking about a social media app I'll give the go-ahead to ban for life because of its negativity.

Like I said, the majority of the social media apps play a wonderful role in the lives of individuals, especially in the areas of finance; it has helped curb poverty to a substantial level, given the fact that it rewards everyone who's creative enough to attract audiences to watch and engage in their content. Despite how amazing these are, many have moved from using some of these social media spaces as a means of showcasing their talents, creativity, and the like to a place where they share different content that stands against almost everything society told us is right, from terrorists using these platforms to showcase their loot and misdeeds to people showcasing nakedness, among other unruly and immoral acts that corrupt the minds of viewers and encourage violence.

If there's a social media app I despise for allowing all of these, it'll be TikTok and X, formerly known as Twitter. Both of these social media applications give room for so much negativity that I wonder what their main purpose is or why they were created in the first place. I use social media a lot, and so I understand it's important for many things, including creating awareness; however, social media like X and TikTok allow a lot of unruly things, from explicit pictures and videos to violence and terrorism to all forms of abuse, that could make the victim consider suicide. Applications like Facebook, Instagram, and the like at least try to curb all of these to some extent, where your content, post, or comments can be flagged because you show certain things that aren't allowed, like guns, or nakedness, or abuse, or thought-provoking words like "violence." The same isn't the case with TikTok and X.

Given the fact that the prompt said one social media application, I'll ban just one social media app for life, and then I guess I'll have to pick between both of those I talked about above, and for that reason I'll go with TikTok being the one that should be banned for life, and even though I know lots of people depend on it to showcase their business and as a source of livelihood, I'll still have it banned because of the many unruly things going on on the platform that aren't being regulated. And I believe the world would be a better place without it, because young ones will have fewer chances of coming across content that'll influence or corrupt them and go on to take a negative toll on the world at large.

Wow .. Applaudable 👏👏👏
I love how you did justice to both sides of social media before delving into your choice.

And I so much agree with the regulations of this media platforms, if very well regulated this platforms would turn out doing more of protecting minds than corrupting it.

Thanks for sharing.
💯💖💯

I agree with you. Tiktok is doing more harm than good. It's turn out to be a corrupt platform while the owners get their profits regardless. About X, I think it gives a warning about “sensitive contents” when you want to view them. I've seen some videos like that. Nevertheless, all the platforms have their issues. But this TikTok is too much.

I hadn't read any posts about this week's contest yet, and I ended up unconsciously posting about TikTok. I think 90% of you here agree that we should ban this app from our lives.

Tiktok is fun and educative, it's just about how it's being used, and there should be an age restriction too.
