Yea it's always much easier for kids if parents can help them identify their talents on time, and also help them groom it to a substantial level, that will greatly help the kid in the future.
Keep up the good work with him and always encourage him, if possible let him have your phone for few minutes to learn different drumming style on YouTube and co.
