Ma marraine Caroline, c'est la meilleure. Elle a travaillé dur, toute sa vie avant de pouvoir se bâtir une maison de rêve sur le bord d'une rivière à Joliette, en rénovant un chalet d'été depuis longtemps dans la famille de son conjoint Martin. Ils ont fait faire le solage, ce qui leur a permis d'entamer d'autres étapes de construction en fonction des permis nécessaires. Pour tout dire, ils ont poussé à la limite de ce qui pouvait passer au sein de la municipalité. Vous trouverez un aperçu des lieux dans ma vidéo, mais aujourd'hui, je voudrais vous montrer la nature de chez nous, celle qui se trouve tout près de chez ma marraine adorée.	My godmother Caroline is the best. She has worked hard, all her life, to build a dream home on the riverfront in Joliette, renovating a long-standing summer cottage in her husband Martin's family. They had the flooring done, which allowed them to start other construction stages according to the different permits required. Truth be told, they pushed the limits of what could be done within the municipality. You will find a glimpse of the place in my video, but today I would like to show you the nature of the province I never really left behind, the greenery close to my beloved godmother's house.

C'est une femme très généreuse qui adore les oiseaux tant et si bien, qu'un hiver elle a décidé de donner un coup de pouce aux oies, leur pourvoyant une rare nourriture hivernale. Bien sûr, il y a toujours c'est discutable de voir les humains aider ainsi la nature, mais elle a un si grand cœur, qu'elle n'a pas pu s'en empêcher!	She is a very generous woman who loves birds so much, that one winter she decided to give a helping hand to the geese, providing them with a rare winter food. Of course, it's debatable to see humans helping nature in this way, but she has such a big heart that she couldn't help herself!
Son tempérament rieur, se anecdotes fascinantes et son esprit de famille en font une amie fantastique avec qui avoir de longues conversations, comme certains de nos périples à Charlevoix peuvent le confirmer. Je l'entends encore m'appeler au loin, après avoir malencontreusement bifurqué sur le sentier du mont du Lac des Signes pour visiter un ruisseau, à poiroter dans le stationnement. Sa patience lors de mes années fougueuses me touche beaucoup.	Her bright personality, her fascinating anecdotes and her family spirit make her a fantastic friend to have long conversations with, as some of our trips to Charlevoix can confirm. I can still hear her calling me from afar, after having mistakenly turned off the trail on the Lac des Signes mountain to visit a creek, waiting around in the parking lot. Her patience during my wild spirited years moves me so.
Je suis bien chanceux de l'avoir dans ma vie. Enfant, elle m'emmenait au Park Safari chaque année pour mon anniversaire. Certaines années c'était la Ronde, un parc d'attractions datant de l'expo 67 durant laquelle fut construite l'île St Hélène avec le roc creusé par le Métro.	I am very lucky to have her in my life. As a child, she took me to Park Safari every year for my birthday. Some years it was La Ronde, an amusement park dating back to Expo 67 when St. Helen's Island was built with the rock dug out for the Metro.
Je me souviens bien comment c'était spécial de faire cette activité et comment ça me rendait heureux. Je suis certain que ça fait partie de ma résilience aujourd'hui.	I remember well how special it was to do this activity and how happy it made me. I'm sure this has helped in building my resilience.

C'est vraiment fabuleux que Caro soit équipée en Kayaks, ça permet à un petit groupe de partir vivre une excursion idyllique.	It is fabulous that Caro is equipped with kayaks, it allows a small group to go on an idyllic excursion.

Voici Martin, l'homme de la maison. Il a bien élargi la famille de Caro qui avait une fille unique avant de le rencontrer. Il a pour sa part trois enfants: Marco, Lauriane et Steph qui sont bien choyés en matière de belle-mère.	This is Martin, the man of the house. He has enlarged Caro's family who had an only daughter before meeting him. He has for his part three children: Marco, Lauriane and Steph who lucked out in the stepmother department.
Un soir, lors de cette visite, j'ai demandé à Martin si au lieu d'encourager ses enfants à jouer au soccer, il aurait pu les envoyer en dance. Je l'imagine encourager son fils à exécuter une chorégraphie sur une chanson de Todrick Hall. Eh bien le lendemain on a regardé une émission de télé-réalité québécoise sur la danse avec toutes sortes de jeunes qui s'exprimaient avec passion et j’y ai vu une certaine ironie.	One evening during this visit, I asked Martin if instead of encouraging his children to play soccer, he could have sent them to dance. I imagine him encouraging his son to choreograph to a Todrick Hall song. Well, the next day we watched a Quebec reality show about dancing with all kinds of kids expressing themselves with passion and I detected a certain irony.

La voici la belle rivière L'Assomption, tantôt on entend un bruit de moteur et tantôt c'est le calme plat. On se croirait bien plus creux dans la province que la municipalité de Joliette.	Here is the beautiful L'Assomption River, sometimes you can hear an engine and sometimes it's dead calm. Onecould easily be fooled into thinking they were much deeper in the province than the municipality of Joliette.
Impossible de passer en Kayak sur les rapides, mais il y a un bon bout sans qu'on en trouve, assez pour une randonnée dépareillée.	Impossible to pass by Kayak on the rapids, but there is a good bit without it, enough for a beautiful leisurely time.

Tantine Laurence, Lolo pour les intimes, est la marraine de mon frère Patrick. Si vous vous souvenez, je vous l'ai présenté récemment. Elle est musicienne, très amusante et a une grande imagination. Son cœur d'enfant est très rare, je me demande comment elle s’y est pris pour le préserver dans la jungle urbaine. Elle a sans doute dû se choisir elle-même maintes et maintes fois pour ne pas laisser les autres tarir sa source de vitalité. Lolo a une voix chantante et, bien que le violon soit son principal vaisseau de créativité, elle n'hésite pas à apprendre un nouvel instrument. En ce moment c'est la flute alto.	Lolo has a melodic voice and, although the violin is her main vessel of creativity, she does not hesitate to learn a new instrument. Right now it's the alto flute.
Elle a invité son amie Suzy pour ce périple et j’ai été absolument charmé par sa présence. Elle est un peu pince sans rire et très amicale.	She invited her friend Suzy for this adventure, and I was absolutely charmed by her presence. Her humour is somewhat dead pan and her personality very friendly.

Elle a invité son amie Suzy pour ce périple et j’ai été absolument charmé par sa présence. Elle est un peu pince sans rire et très amicale.

Nous voici sur un petit bout de plage, prêts pour la baignade, à profiter des dernières journées splendides que la nature veut bien nous offrir. J’adore passer du temps avec Caro et Lolo, c’est la combinaison parfaite. Le seul problème c’est que le temps passé ensemble va trop vite.	Here we are on a small stretch of beach, ready for a swim, to enjoy the last splendid days that nature wants to offer us. I love spending time with Caro and Lolo, it's the perfect combination. The only problem is that the time spent together goes too fast.

Je me considère extrêmement chanceux d’être né aussi bien entouré. Je n’ai rien fait pour mériter une telle famille et j’essaie de redonner aux autres ce que j’ai reçu du mieux que je peux. Ma tante Caro est d’une grande gentillesse mais le charme de notre relation réside en le fait qu’ensemble nous sommes totalement décontractés. C’est le miracle de la vie contemporaine, chacun vaque à ses occupations avec indépendance et quand on se retrouve, on a évolué mais il est facile de retrouver la personnalité de l’autre, ce qui rassure beaucoup. Dans notre cas, atteindre un équilibre entre raisonnable et bon vivant, est un jeu qui ne finit jamais. Je voue un grand respect à ma marraine qui a toujours fourni un effort pour faire partie de ma vie, et je sens que c’est à mon tour de la valoriser, parce que c’est un être extraordinaire et qu’elle le mérite! My aunt Caro is very kind, but the charm of our relationship is that together we are totally relaxed. In our case, reaching a balance between being level-headed and bon vivant is a game that never ends. I have great respect for my godmother who has always strived to be part of my life, and I feel that it is my turn to value her, because she is an extraordinary being and she deserves it!
