Today is the day of discount sales in the United States known as "Black Friday", although Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the #Christmas period for that country, in its sense of family, gratitude and sharing with people, today begins the other side of the festivity, which is the sale and purchase of various merchandise. When I dedicated myself to buying and selling things, as a complement to my salary as a teacher, it was a well-known point that if you didn't sell at Christmas, you were too bad a seller, at Christmas you can sell anything and surely someone will to buy.
On this day 987 since the #quarantine was announced in #Venezuela due to #COVID-19, that #pandemic that has become more of an endemic, I was thinking about what to write in my record of the day. Personally, it was a day that I worked through the night and early morning, until a while after dawn, my head ached, and I fell asleep all morning. So I can say that in general I'm having a quiet day, night has come, and it's only now that I've started preparing the publication.

Hoy es el día de ventas con descuento en Estados Unidos que se conoce como “Black Friday”, si bien el día de Acción de Gracias marca el inicio del periodo navideño para ese país, en su sentido de familia, gratitud y compartir con la gente, el día de hoy da inicio a la otra cara de la festividad, que es la venta y compra de mercancías diversas. Cuando me dedicaba a comprar y vender cosas, como complemento para mi salario como profesor, era bien conocido punto de que si no vendías en #navidad es que eras demasiado mal vendedor, en las navidades se puede vender de todo y de seguro que alguien lo va a comprar.
En este día 987 desde que se anunció la #cuarentena en #Venezuela por el #Covid19, esa #pandemia que ya más bien se ha vuelto una endemia, estaba pensando sobre que escribir en mi registro del día. En lo personal, fue un día que trabajé durante la noche y la madrugada, hasta llevar un rato luego del amanecer, la cabeza me quedó doliendo y me quedé dormido toda la mañana. Así que puedo decir que en general estoy teniendo un día tranquilo, ya ha llegado la noche y apenas ahora es que me he puesto a preparar la publicación.
En este día 987 desde que se anunció la #cuarentena en #Venezuela por el #Covid19, esa #pandemia que ya más bien se ha vuelto una endemia, estaba pensando sobre que escribir en mi registro del día. There were several interesting elements in the #History ephemeris, among them, I decided to record that today on a subject that is not in the saints or in the commemorations by itself, but that I have kept in mind due to the special Sales Day for 'Black Friday'. The tradition of clearing inventory with discounted sales on almost all merchandise is not something that was part of the tradition in my country, and like other foreign customs or celebrations, it has been introduced gradually and relatively recently.
The point is that it caught my attention when I reviewed social networks and found out that stores in different cities of my country were filled with people trying to buy whatever, causing disorders, violence between people and destruction of private property in a couple of cases I saw on the news. I must say that I am surprised, both by the virulence of the buying impulse, both by the destruction and disorder caused, and also by the contradiction that the Venezuelan #economy is a little better than last year, but we still have economic indicators that indicate serious problems in the 'street economy', that which does not focus on the macroeconomic values of the entire nation, but instead focuses on the micro-economy of the pocket of the majority of citizens, that of day to day.

Había en las efemérides de la #Historia varios elementos interesantes, de entre ellos me decidí por registrar que hoy sobre un tema que no está en el santoral o en las conmemoraciones por sí mismo, pero que he tenido presente debido al Día de Ventas especial por ‘Viernes Negro’. La tradición de hacer limpieza de inventario con ventas con descuento en casi toda la mercancía no es algo que fuera parte de la tradición de mi país, y al igual que otras costumbres o celebraciones foráneas, se ha ido introduciendo paulatinamente y hace relativamente poco tiempo.
El punto es que me llamó la atención al revisar las redes sociales y enterarme de que las tiendas en distintas ciudades de mi país se llenaron de gente procurando comprar lo que fuera, llegando a provocar desórdenes, violencia entre personas y destrucción de la propiedad privada en un par de casos que vi en las noticias. Debo decir que estoy sorprendido, tanto por la virulencia del impulso de compra, tanto por la destrucción y desorden causado, como también por la contradicción de que la economía venezolana está un poco mejor que el año pasado, pero aún tenemos indicadores económicos que señalan graves problemas en la ‘economía de calle’, esa que no se enfoca en los valores macro-económicos de toda la nación, sino que se enfoca en la micro-economía del bolsillo de la mayoría de los ciudadanos, la del día a día.
El punto es que me llamó la atención al revisar las redes sociales y enterarme de que las tiendas en distintas ciudades de mi país se llenaron de gente procurando comprar lo que fuera, llegando a provocar desórdenes, violencia entre personas y destrucción de la propiedad privada en un par de casos que vi en las noticias. My country achieved the record, not pleasant, of having more than 7 years in a row as the most miserable economy in the world in this Century, causing the worst hyperinflation of the Century in the Western Hemisphere and many different problems with its finances and the transparency of its management. With this reality of time so close, the fact that the situation of unbridled purchases and even violence occurs, presents me with something very difficult to understand or explain to those who are not around these parts.
I admit that there is something of a 'gray economy' in all this, a term that points to the research results that approximately 21% of GDP this year is related to activities that do not comply with the law or may directly originate from criminal activities. Added to the fact that with more than 7 million emigrants from Venezuela, who have settled in different parts of the world, there was a certain income for the families that were left behind by the remittances that these people sent, but those amounts have pointed out that they have decreased due to the crisis that the pandemic brought us, and now it is further complicated by the economic crises associated with conflicts, wars and international tensions.

Mi país logró el récord, nada grato, de tener más de 7 años seguidos como la economía más miserable del mundo en este Siglo, prestando la peor hiperinflación del Siglo en el Hemisferio Occidental y muy diversos problemas con sus finanzas y la transparencia de su manejo. Con esa realidad de tiempo tan cercano, el que se dé la situación de compra desaforada y llegando hasta la violencia, me presenta una cosa muy difícil de entender o de explicar a quienes no están por estos lados.
Admito que hay algo de ‘economía gris’ en todo esto, término que señala los resultados de investigación de que aproximadamente el 21% del PIB de este año tiene relación con actividades que no cumplen con la legalidad o directamente pueden tener origen en actividades delictivas. Sumado al hecho de que con más de 7 millones de personas emigrantes de Venezuela, que se han establecido en distintas partes del mundo, se tenía un cierto ingreso para las familias que quedaron atrás por las remesas que estas personas enviaban, pero esos montos se ha señalado que han disminuido por la crisis que nos trajo la pandemia y ahora se complica más por las crisis económicas asociadas a conflictos, guerras y tensiones internacionales.
Admito que hay algo de ‘economía gris’ en todo esto, término que señala los resultados de investigación de que aproximadamente el 21% del PIB de este año tiene relación con actividades que no cumplen con la legalidad o directamente pueden tener origen en actividades delictivas. Bien, se puede decir que tenemos mejoría económica, pero todo lo que he podido revisar es que se apunta a un incremento de la desigualdad, la mejora de la economía en Venezuela se manifiesta aparentemente en no más del 10% de la población nacional, aunque parece que el porcentaje de Mísera y Pobreza Extrema este año bajo a cerca del 67%, eso es un avance, pues el año pasado el porcentaje de gente en este estado crítico alcanzaba casi el 75%. Lo malo es que aún tenemos dos tercios de la población del país que tiene muy difícil poder comer tres veces al día y afrontar gastos de supervivencia.
Así, sabiendo eso y viendo las imágenes de las noticias del viernes negro de nuestro país, tengo como que una sensación desagradable. Le deseo a los que compran que disfruten su compra, pero toca rezar de que no caigan en la ostentación grosera que haga resaltar aún más la terrible diferencia entre el ingreso de recursos y divisas al país y su distribución en la población, cosa que se medía con el Coeficiente de Gini. A inicios del Siglo, el valor de este coeficiente en Venezuela fue mejorando y se habló de que estábamos encaminados a una sociedad más igualitaria en el reparto de la riqueza, pero en la década actual, las cosas están lejos de esa situación, todavía Colombia es quien tiene el peor desempeño de este coeficiente, pero Venezuela le sigue de cerca y, tal como muestra el mapa del inicio de la publicación, se ubica entre los peores del continente.
