Wednesday is almost here... Every time I go for a walk, I don't expect anything special. I like to walk when I have too many thoughts in my head. After a good walk, only the important things settle out of this disordered and disturbing cloud.
But I'm always ready for surprises, and I'm glad for them. I'm glad when something surprises or intrigues me. Often the walk continues after returning home. When I see something I want to know more about, I go home and look it up. And then I look at my photos again.

Recently, I again walked through KPI Park (Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute). I had plenty of time so I can call it a walk. When we have a lot of time, we tend to notice things we didn't see before.
It's a shame, but I didn't pay attention to this monument before. I didn't notice what it was dedicated to, because I thought it was something pathetic and abstract from Soviet times. But I was very wrong.
Недавно я знову йшла через парк КПІ. У мене було достатньо часу, тому я можу назвати це прогулянкою. Коли у нас багато часу, ми схильні помічати те, чого раніше не бачили.
Соромно, але я раніше не звертала увагу на цей пам'ятник. Не придивлялась, чому він присвячений, бо думала, що це щось пафосне і абстрактне із радянських часів. Але я сильно помилялась.
13 names. 13 high-educated, intelligent people who gave their lives for freedom and the right to choose. Celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Kyiv Polytechnic, this well-known and respected educational institution honored the memory of its teachers and students who gave their lives for their homeland.
- Pavlo Mazurenko, one of the Heavenly Hundred. Lived in Crimea, and died from a beating in Kyiv on December 22, 2013. Worked in IT.
- Serhii Bondarev, born in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. He had a prestigious job in a well-known IT company. He died from four bullet wounds near the House of Trade Unions, which then burned down. On February 20, 2014, he was identified by relatives in the morgue.
- Popravka Yuriy. He was under 18, a student. In April 2014, together with his friends, he went to Kharkiv to visit his girlfriend, then was captured by pro-Russian militants. According to a witness who was in captivity with Yuriy and survived the torture, Yuriy was killed for refusing to speak Russian and refusing to lie about going to the Moscow Patriarchate church.
13 імен. 13 освічених, розумних людей, які віддали життя за свободу і за право вибору. Відзначаючи 120-ліття Київської політехніки, цей відомий і шанований навчальний заклад вшановув пам’ять про своїх співробітників і вихованців, які віддали життя за батьківщину.
- Мазуренко Павло, один із Небесної Сотні. Жив у Криму, а помер від побиття в Києві 22 грудня 2013. Працював в ІТ.
- Бондарев Сергій, народився у Краматорську, Донецька область. Мав престижну роботу у відомій ІТ компанії. Помер від чотирьох кульових поранень біля Будинку профспілок, який потім згорів. 20 лютого 2014 року опізнаний родичами у морзі.
- Поправка Юрій. Йому було неповних 18 років, студент. У квітні 2014 разом із друзями поїхав до своєї дівчини до Харкова, потім попав у полон до проросійських бойовиків. За даними свідка, який був у полоні разом з Юрієм та вижив після катування, Юрія вбили за відмову говорити російською і відмову збрехати, що ходить до храму Московського патріархату.
We used to say that the present war began in 2014. But in reality, the war between the Russians and the Ukrainians has been going on for centuries. This is the war of the prodigal son, trying to kill his father and mother and destroy memory about them. Hundreds years of struggle against the Russians have hardened the Ukrainians, and defeats have imprinted the thirst for freedom in the genetic memory.

It was a very exciting, emotional find. The next one was different, but interesting. This monument made me google it when I got home.

This monument is a granite block depicting an airplane in flight. It was installed on the site of the wooden hangar in which Prince Oleksandr Kudashev, professor of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, engineer and agrarian scientist, built his airplane. This device became the first aircraft in the Russian Empire (to which the Ukrainian lands belonged at the time) that was able to leave the ground. In May 1910, it was raised by the developer himself into the sky above Kyiv.

Цей пам’ятний знак - гранітна брила, на якій зображено аероплан у польоті. Його встановлено на місці дерев’яного ангару, в якому збудував свій аероплан професор Київського політехнічного інституту, інженер і вчений-аграрій князь Олександр Кудашев. Цей апарат став першим літаком в Російській імперії (до якої тоді належали Українсткі землі), що зміг відірватися від землі. У київське небо в травні 1910 року його підняв сам розробник.
The buildings of the KPI and the territory are worth enjoying again and again. So enough stories, let's just think and walk.
Корпуси КПІ і сама територія варті того, щоб насолоджуватися ними знову і знову. Тому досить історій, давайте просто подумаємо і погуляєм.
