And its wednesday again ! My wife and I went for a walk around a small nature reserve near Balerno in Scotland, and we went litter picking on the way !
The nature reserve is on an area of heather bog land at the base of the hills above Balerno.
Its in quite a pretty area, we used to go there a lot when we lived closer, but havent been for a couple of years.
It was a lovely warm sunny day and quite a few butterflies were out and about.
The bog land is quite wet and swampy, so the raised boardwalk allows you to walk right through without any issues.
There are info boards along the way, and the boardwalk goes round in a big loop through the bog land.
The pond above is at the farthest end of the walk and is usually full of insects and pond life, but it was hard to see due to the green cover.
We saw quite a few butterflies. We also saw a red deer and a common lizard - but in the case of the latter two, they were gone before we could take a picture. Its not often that we see lizards in Britain, I've maybe only seen one 4 or 5 times (in 50 years !).
And we also saw this tiny toad - its was only about 1cm across !
And more butterflies !
We also went litter collecting along the way. I'm glad to say that there wasnt much at all in the nature reserve. And that we got most of it on the way there and back. All taken home and disposed of properly.
It was really nice to go back to the nature reserve, especially on such a lovely sunny day !

thats good there was too much trash left behind by others, but then again anything left behind is too much I think

That was a nice walk and great that the weather was with you to make it enjoyable. I don't know how there are still people who don't mind littering in nature, but how nice that you picked up what you found. Five lizards in 50 years hehe, wow I think I see 5 of the little ones a week inside the house, and before having a cat we used to see more.

Many thanks, and happy wednesday to you too ! Lizards are pretty rare here, although they are also called common lizards ! You can only find them in this type of habitat in the UK.
