Let's go for a walk and explore
Greetings, dear friends of the Wednesday Walk Community. Today I was taking a stroll through downtown Caracas; there we find many places that evoke our history. I came to buy some Christmas decorations, and after wandering from one place to another, I thought: why not visit a colonial house from that era and show you a part of our history? So that you can visually travel back in time and we can combine nature with history on a day like our Wednesday walks.

Vamos A Pasear Y Conocer Un saludo, queridos amigos de Wednesday Walk Community. Hoy estuve dando un paseo por el centro de la ciudad de Caracas; en ella vamos a encontrar muchos espacios que evocan a nuestra historia. Venía a comprar algunas cosas navideñas y después de recorrer un lugar a otro. Me dije: ¿por qué no visitar una casa colonial de esa época y mostrarles parte de nuestra historia? Para que visualmente se remonten a ese tiempo y unimos la naturaleza con la historia en un día, como son los miércoles de paseo.
Since we are in the historic center, we will go to a house that was built in 1761 by missionaries of the Jesuit religious order, known as the Society of Jesus. Their mission was to profess the faith and provide education through their social programs; for this reason, they built the school for this purpose. Over time, this building became the headquarters of many institutions. In 1893, it was acquired as his main residence by Lorenzo Mendoza Buroz (a Venezuelan businessman).
Como nos encontramos en el casco histórico, nos vamos a dirigir a una casa que fue construida en 1761 por los misioneros de la orden religiosa los Jesuitas, denominados la Compañía de Jesús, su misión era profesar la fe, e impartir educación a través de sus programas sociales, por esta razón levantaron el colegio para tal fin. Con el tiempo, este edificio paso a ser sede de muchas instituciones. En los años de1893 fue adquirida como residencia principal por Lorenzo Mendoza Buroz (empresario venezolano).
Maintaining its colonial structures, which for the time were characterized by large wooden gates and windows that let in plenty of daylight, the building features a design of arches, columns, and a central courtyard typical of the era. Surrounding it in a quadrant, one can wander through hallways and rooms where various exhibitions and activities take place. The well-preserved floor showcases its unique tile design in each space.
Manteniendo sus estructuras coloniales, que para la época se caracterizaban por grandes portones de madera, ventanales para que den paso a la luz del día. Al entrar nos encontramos con un diseño de arcos, columnas y patio central típicas de la época, sus alrededores como un cuadrante, podemos caminar por pasillos y cuartos donde se realizan diversas exposiciones y actividades. El piso muy bien conservado nos muestra su diferente diseño de azulejos para cada espacio.
The corridors showcase antique furnishings, where visitors can sit and immerse themselves in that era, admiring the inner gardens and the most striking objects. One room preserves elements of the original structure, including a former water well. The inviting space offers the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and conversation, or even share a meal with friends.
En sus corredores se detalla el antiguo mobiliario, donde el visitante puede sentarse y recrear esa época, al contemplar sus jardines internos y detallar los objetos más llamativos. Un salón donde se mantienen muestras de la estructura antigua, y donde se encontraba un pozo de agua. El espacio es acogedor, nos brinda la oportunidad de tomar un café y conversar, como también compartir y almorzar con una buena compañía.
Among its activities are: presenting cultural events, promoting health, learning about history, and using its spaces to escape the hustle and bustle of the city by reading a good book. Throughout its history, the house has safeguarded the historical memory and identity of Venezuelans, serving as a landmark of colonial houses. The House of Venezuelan History is located in Caracas, between the Veroes and Jesuitas corners. It belongs to the Polar Foundation.
Entre sus actividades están: presentación de eventos culturales, promover la salud, conocer la historia y utilizar sus espacios para apartarnos del bullicio de la ciudad leyendo un buen libro. Durante todo este tiempo, la casa ha sabido salvaguardar la memoria histórica e identidad de los venezolanos, siendo un referente de las casas coloniales. La Casa de la Historia de Venezuela, se encuentra en Caracas, entre las esquinas de Veroes a Jesuitas. Un espacio que le pertenece a la Fundación Polar.
