For this week's #wednesdaywalk adventure, as inspired by @tattoodjay, I finally got back to a historic spot in town.

I will do a better deep dive in the future on the event, but for today's walk, wanted to view the shipwreck site. It's located on the Black River, where it just starts to merge with the Mississippi River.

There have been many stories in this area about the young girl who died in the wreck many years ago. Some speculate that she is now a siren who draws young men to the cold waters above...others speculate that you can hear her yelling in this area late at night from the murky waters around. Honestly, I haven't experienced anything here, but then again, I typically avoid this area late at night.

I know I've written in the past that area has a lot of history. It does...lots of history. Granted, Europeans started to explore this area in the late 1600's and 1700's, but the Native American people resided in this area for thousands of years. Whenever I can write about it and the history, I'm all about it - especially for a #wednesdaywalk post!

Still, today wasn't all about the history...we had ducks:

Clouds and main channel buoys:

And, of course, a shot of my steel toes before they headed to the machine shop:

As I said, I plan to do a more detailed post on this area in the future, but for today, wanted to give my Hive friends a glimpse of a bit of history in this part of the world.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday and will see everyone next week!

Beautiful landscapes. It amazes me that this is the beginning of the Mississippi River and that they have so many stories or urban legends behind it. The one about the girl who lost her life and became a mermaid caught my attention. Maybe reality overcomes fiction and I find that the river and the place itself have much more to tell. Nice pictures by the way 🙌 cheers

Thank you! Yeah, the further south you go, the river gets more commercial and urban...this place is very special as most of it has been engineered to protect native wildlife.

the entire river is filled with history, but I'm partial to this bit as I've live here for a bit :)

Such a beautiful area loooking forward to reading more about this area

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk

thanks ! lots of history - the first shot actually had a wagon bridge from where I was standing...the James gang went through that same spot many years ago!

Manually curated by ackhoo from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

I found the trees beautiful. We don't have trees with colors like this (a black/grey). So I got curious the more I look at it, especially the story of place and the myth about the girl.

Interesting.

I'm a little curious about the mystical story that is in that place, it is a characteristic of a place, unique indeed, and if I'm honest I like the shoes, it's like a relic of ancient times.

Well thanks! The boots are steel toes from Red Wing, Minnesota...

It is a very mystical place indeed - I need to do some more research to get s more interesting post together - thanks for stopping by!
