#Wednesday Walk Art around New Bedford

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

Any questions about the challenge read the guide at the Bottom of the post ;)

Following on from yesterdays post, I went for a walk to see some of the pieces I found listed in the display down by the port.

Startign with this piece in Custom House Square in the city Centre here in New Bedford, it is called Threshold and is by Merk Reigelman

these art pieces are hosted by DATMA and are an exhibit called Shelter 2023

DATMA is committed to bringing world-renowned art, design, and technology exhibitions, programs, and initiatives to the sidewalks and streets of South Coast, Massachusetts.
Identified as one of the Commonwealth’s most creative economies by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, DATMA has a headquarters in New Bedford where it has worked with talented artists and organizations on collaborative projects that leave you inspired and energized.

What I found really cool about the threshold piece the colors are different on each side of viewing the door

Perhaps a simple concept but placed in a green area like this I find it quite striking

The next piece I will share with you is by an artist Maxwell Emcays and entitled New Bedford: our woven story

I will be honest I did not find it as striking as the first piece in the dull morning light, but it is lit up at night and probably looks a lot more striking and eye catching then

and a last shot of this piece to finish off the post

I did find another one of the pieces referred to on the display down by the port on another day but that was a different walk so I will share that in a future post

Weekly giveaway of shares

This week I am sending to the following who joined Wednesday Walk, for this week I did a random draw and the following each received some Hive @orestistrips, @mell79, @technicalside, #littlebee4, @almi, @jerrytsuseer

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

Add a bit of a write up about where you walked

Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .

Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Have a great day

The threshold piece was really neat. It was really striking how it changes colors, even the glass. Like you, I wasn't overly impressed with the second one, but I don't know crap about art, so there is that. Can't wait to see the next one.

LOL I know nothing about art either i just know what I like and what I dont LOL

Same here.

It really look great. I hope you like it and enjoy your Wednesday as a memorable day of the weak.

Loving all those pretty and cool art pieces. Exhibiting it like that will surely get more appreciation to people. I'm curious what they look like at not especially that one creation of Maxwell Emcays.

Yeah, the concept is simple but rather beautiful seeing two different colours to each door. A hundred possible stories are swirling in my mind from just looking at them.
I'm curious to see how lighted up the New Bedford art would be at night.
Have you seen it personally?

I have seen a photo of it lit up at night but I havent been down there to see it myself yet

the Door being different from each side was a cool touch

The previous art.piece, I mean the doors looks wonderful. Passing through was like stepping into the other side of the world 😄

👍🙂👍

Good Morning JJ, for some reason none of your images are coming through in ecency
Nor will my screen shot.
I've upvoted and reblogged anyway, as I'm sure I'll be able to view them somehow, perhaps Peakd?

↑Upvoted↑and←Reblogged→

Sorry to hear that I primarily used peakd but have had that happen there at times as well

I DID get to see the images in Peakd

👍🙂👍

Everything is showing here in Peakd. Well done @tattoodjay

I really liked the gates, in green areas it makes me think like the gates of heaven, they really are beautiful.

The other work I agree with you, it is not very nice to say.

Thank you for this walk @tattoodjay

Thanks the Door was the most impressive for me for sure

Thank you very much - I really appreciate your generosity (I can't see it in my wallet but thanks anyway).
Keep walking!

I like the threshhold installations! The stained glass is particularly striking. Happy #wednesdaywalk 🙂

I loved the stained glass side :)

This caught my eye as I'm from 'old' Bedford. We will be over in the US soon and it may be possible to check out the 'new' version. The art stuff looks cool.

there are 4 New Bedford this one, and also in Ohio Illinois and Pennsylvania, and there are even more Bedfords I believe

The shot you took are beautiful and I love the green grass.
It has been a long while since the last time I joined the Wednesday walk.
#dreemport challenge inspired me to get out, take a walk and get some photos.

Thanks I will visit your post soon

Alright thank you too for the opportunity.

The doors are cool, but I am not so sure what to think of the last piece!

Interesting walk this week Jay and I posted my walk I had this morning.

Midweek hike to Balwearie Castle in the Kingdom of Fife 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland

yes I feel the same way, I was out for a walk by the port this morning and saw some art, one I thought was really cool the others not so much I guess each to their own

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that ...

Definitely beautiful art pieces, I really love that shade of blue on the door, amidst the gray frame. The bright colours on the other side are also looking fantastic. The creativity is amazing. Thank you for sharing and keep enjoying your week :}

thanks and you to enjoy the rest of your week

Wow! This is really unique! I find it interesting what you say about the one in the second photo that the colors are different on each side of viewing the door!

I can see why!

Love those gates! Especially in blue 😍💙

and yes that piece is my favorite for sure

The threshold piece pays homage to so much about New Bedford, its history as a major whaling port, its historical role in abolitionism, and the Underground Railroad. I love everything about that massive door, so very ornate. What a stunning statement it makes. inviting everyone to pass through its threshold. Did they have a big dedication ceremony? Another beautiful piece for Bedford.

I do like this artist, Mark Reigelman, and I just discovered that he is the same one that built a (humble) Quaker Meetinghouse in downtown Boston, on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. It was partly built to disorientate and present people with the unexpected when strolling through Boston. It appears to be sinking into the ground, but, was really built that way with the meeting house’ emerging as a brightly painted new england quaker-style dwelling — the very plain and simple architecture of Boston’s first colonial settlers. I visited it in 2018 and saw it, then again in 2019 and 2020... I just really like Boston. I like that his pieces are filled with meaning and symbolism.

I did look up Marks work and love his style, he has such a creative mind, would love to see more of his work, as for Boston yet again I will say one day I will get there LOL

Very amazing photos sir @tattoodjay and a wonderful initiative too let us write about our thoughts and stuff. I'm happy that I already wrote and aiming for more

Thanks kindly your support is appreciated

Have a great day
