Wednesday Walk Downtown New Bedford
This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)
Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.
This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines
Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.
Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.
Try and get a few shots not just one
Add a bit of a write up about where you walked
You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss
Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .
Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.
I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules
I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

As I mentioned above Wednesday Walk is collaborating with the [Make Me Smile] hosted by @elizacheng,

Your post can be writing, singing, video, poem,drawing, photography etc.... the most important part is your post Make me" smile, Remember, the ME is whoever read/view/listen to your post and this includes YOURSELF.

c. Please include at least 50 Words in your post
And now onto this weeks post
And its actually a walk I did in the last week rather than digging into my Archives, from a walk a took around downtown here in New Bedford last week
I looke dup the history of New Bedford and found it was founded in 1787, The Russell family, in particular Joseph Russell III, is considered the founder of New Bedford because of his land purchases along the Acushnet River and the overlooking heights. In 1765, Mr. Russell sold 10 acres of this land to Nantucket whaling merchant Joseph Rotch.
An interesting fact I never knew was that in the 19th Century New Bedford gained worldwide reputation as the greatest whaling port and the richest city per capita in the world. Portuguese and Cape Verdean immigrants formed the backbone of the whaling industry, on the wharves and on the high seas.

Now I do love cobblestone streets and find it hard to resist the urge to edit them into a mono shot which is what I did with the next shot

Next up is City Hall, which is what spurred this post I needed to go there to pick up a Beach Parking sticker for my car

That's a good inspiration to write post about wednesday walk, the pictures which more likely to b&w is just remind about decade of 60.

BEER.What struck me in all of your photos was that it was so clean and tidy!! What a lovely place :)
This area is very clean and looked after sadly not all of the city is like that
I love me some cobblestone streets too! I will never forget the ones over in Rhode Island. There is just something really deep about them that kind of roots you to the past when you walk down them. Beautiful shots as always! I look forward to seeing some beach shots from you now that you have your parking pass!
You and me both, I must plan a visit or three to Rhode Island its close enough :)

Nice photos! I love cobblestone streets, as well. Never heard of a beach parking sticker. Do you need special permission to park along the beach there?
One of the funniest things I saw when I lived in Spain was three British ladies in heels trying to walk up a steep cobblestone street. THe stones were rounded an their shoes kept sliding between them. It would have made a great video!
Thanks, and yes as a resident we can get a season pass for the city car parks by the beaches for $5 or you have to pay a daily rate if not a residentor dont have a sticker, not for all beaches just a few of them

Glad to see you getting out for your walks and in such a place with quite a history! I love the cobble streets too. Was it early morning or something that there was no traffic on them or is it an area that is not much traveled on?
Love seeing the blossoming trees!
The leaves are just starting to unfurl here so we still have a bit before we see the flower blossoms.

I think there is still hesitiancy by may to be out and about unless really needed because of Covid
