Head in the Clouds | Drawing with the Note 10+

in OnChainArt5 years ago (edited)

I'm back! While taking a short break from work, I spent time trying to come up with something new to draw. It's not a secret that I've been trying to experiment with my art. I started this year with random illustrations, then portraits. Now, I try to dabble with surrealism.

It's been a while, actually. When I was in high school, I loved doodling stuff like this. It's about time I try to practice and improve in this genre.

Head in the Clouds

She looks at the world with stars in her eyes and her head in the clouds. To her, there's an ocean in the sky. And that makes up everything happy to her.

Head in the Clouds on NFT Showroom

I will be minting this on NFT Showroom in a while. I'm still just deciding how many editions I should make of this, and how much. So far, I like this better than my other latest artworks.

EDIT: Now minted on NFT Showroom in only 1 edition.

Drawing Head in the Clouds

I loved to daydream. Sometimes, I'd find myself mumbling, at which point I'd be so conscious of myself and my surroundings. This then turns me into a klutz. One time during break at work, I was walking to the pantry when I hit my colleague's divider. And then, just a few seconds later, I bumped onto the water dispenser.

Thankfully, my hyperactive imagination doesn't affect anything else (especially work, thankfully never work). But that's exactly what drove me to draw this one.

I used a photo from Pinterest as base reference and worked out the details from there.

I started with the cloud. Again, getting this right was a make or break moment. If it looked good enough, I would continue with the artwork. If it didn't, I would scrap it. Thankfully, it looked OK, so I added in the cute stuff.

Cute stuff for me include underwater creatures -- like whales! Then the flower and the moon and the stars and hearts and stuffed toys. My interests normally don't fall into the generic girly stuff, but sometimes, I can be so girly nothing can faze me, hands-down.

When I was through with the cloud and cute stuff, I went on to my favorite. The portrait...ish. I intended to show the hands, but doing so made the cloud feel out of place. Belatedly, I added wings, which I thought fit the concept.

I thought really hard about the eye part. I was already painting both eyes when the idea of covering them hit. Should I cover the eyes? Should I not? I settled with covering the eyes...

For a reason.

I did say I turn into a klutz every time my head is elsewhere. I wanted to illustrate how I can't seemingly multitask and not see where I go when my mind drifts. Sometimes I think I might be going crazy... hopefully not! :P

Below are progress shots of this work. You can see the many changes this work went through before I finally settled with what I like more.

Notes

I'll probably be making a then and now comparison of my drawings soon, with then being some 5 months ago. xD
