Town Crier

in OnChainArt4 years ago

Hi everyone!
Here's 'Town Crier', a piece I did for myself a couple years ago and still to this day is one of my favorites.

Does look a bit small when you see it here so I made a few close-ups. :)

This is also one of the most complex artworks I've made when it comes to environments. I did render the castles in Vue (not really what the software is for haha) and I had one render at night and one during the day. That way I could have the night render be what's mostly seen, but use the daylight rendering to add the light on the walls.

As I (almost) always do, I made a process animation back in the day. It starts with the depth map that Vue exports if you ask it to.

But if you want to go deeper into it, I also made a video of the whole process that you can see here:

Later on, this artwork became the cover art for Frederick the Victorious' album "The Widow's Watch".

And I get why it is! This is soooo good! 😍

:D Thank you, I'm happy you agree. :D
A lot of my work I hate a week after I finished it so it's an outlier. :P

Well deserved to be made an album cover, though that tiny snippet does show only a small portion of the detail! It's simply astounding to see how much detail you've put into a single scene, and every little part has its own story to tell. From the statue, to those towering spires in the background, the ships in the harbour, to that duel going on... So much to take in and enjoy. Cheers, and keep up the awesome work ❤️!

:D Yeah for the cover I had to realign the buildings, as they all seem to be tilted if you see only that part. xD

Surely my thing is just cluttering up artworks, but sometimes they just come out a little bit better than the majority. :P

Thanks a lot!

Oh yeah, I didn't notice that slight gradient there XD! What you call clutter, is what I call creating an amazing atmosphere that gives real depth to any illustration or scene. My eyes aren't refined enough to see quality details, but I do greatly appreciate the fore- and back-grounds, and how they all connect :-D Very well done!

So awesome! I love your attention to details!

:D Glad you do, thank you so much!

You are very talented and have a lot of imagination. Congratulations!

All those reflective surfaces highlight how alive and lived in the city really is.

Glad you think so, thank you!

Very nice compilation, which software did you use ??

I used Vue to render a model of the castle (I found the model on the internet years ago), just made several copies of it. Then I used Photoshop for the whole rest of the process.

This looks very well laid out. I don’t know what software you used but it looked like it was a ton of work. I love the various shadows and depths. Then you have the crier in the foreground to focus attention to. Very well done!

:D Thanks! I used Vue to start and compose then Photoshop all the way through. I Don't remember exactly how long it took but likely around 40 hours.
