We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
One thing I like to do as an artist is to draw special personalised artworks for friends as gifts! Both because I'm a bad gift giver but also because I find personalised art a better gift than anything I could buy especially in this day and age. But here's the first one I did for one of my mods that I think is one of the better ones to this day:
This piece is for one of my streamer and artist friends, who goes by wolfie_taurus on Twitch! She's always really supportive and has actually done a lot of art for me despite me telling her that she doesn't have to! I felt like I owe her so much after all the avatars she's drawn for me even though she says it doesn't take too much effort. So I decided to draw her something for her birthday!
Granted, she did redeem a simple art piece from me on her actual birthday since I was streaming at the time, but I wanted to do something more special and legitimate.
I have a reward that viewers can redeem with channel points over on my Twitch channel where viewers can make me do a quick doodle on MS Paint and I'll tweet it out immediately after. Initially wolfie did redeem it with her channel points but I figured since I owe her so much and it's her birthday I'll just do it for her for free.
And after about 3 minutes, this was what I ended up with. It was really scuffed and I tried my best with a mouse which I'm not used to, so forgive me.
Wolfie's such a troll but she said she loved it and in fact made it her profile picture on discord after I sent it to her! I felt so embarrassed but I'm glad she loved both the doodle and watching me suffer drawing with a mouse under a time limit. 😅
Anyway, to sort of make up for it I wanted to actually try and draw something for her but since I was already going to be late for it I went with something simple. I was thinking of just drawing her OC but in chibi form, with a chocolate cake in front since that's her favourite flavour.
Then I thought of another piece I did for one of my streamer friends where I drew her hugging her cat and thought I could do that with wolfie since she has a dog, but I couldn't really get the right pose for her.
So I decided to just scrap that idea and go with them separated but I'd also include her dog in somewhere. Since she changed her discord profile picture I thought I'd make it fit in a circle in case she wanted to change it to something nicer.
I also changed her eyes a little bit so she looks more hyped and happy for her birthday, even though I know she probably isn't. Most of her OCs have a negative or neutral expression so I thought it'd be cute to see it happy for once. Eventually I got this sketch:
It seemed pretty good and I think this is probably the best version of wolfie's OC I've ever done since she made me draw her character quite a few times in Paint and they all looked so bad. I wasn't really sure what breed her dog was; I feel like it's a Golden doodle but I'm not 100% certain. But I figured my sketch was close enough. Anyway, it was time to outline!
I worked on colouring her first, and thankfully she only has about 5 colours to her OC. I chose yellow for the party hat to contrast the pink and purple and I think it worked pretty well!
After adding in the shadows and colouring in her doggo (wit a specialised TacoCat scarf to boot!), we get this:
And last but not least, the cake! This one definitely took the longest to replicate due to all the colours and layers. I thought the cake I drew last time was so good and just copied a vector I found since it's better than anything I could come up with myself, even for a cake.
Once the cake was done I was so relieved! I wasn't really sure what to do for the background but I wanted something simple that would make her stand out. With her colours it was kinda hard to decide, but I figured since she's wolfie, a moon would actually be quite fitting. It's also round so I wouldn't need the circular outline just to show it would fit for a discord profile picture too. I thought it was perfect since it's a more subtle way and worked with her OC as well.
I was thinking of making the background darker but decided to go for her signature pink and purple and it actually ended up looking better so I kept it at that. This was the final piece:
I was surprised I managed to finish it in less than 3 hours or so, but so thankful too since I could send it to her just a day after her birthday! I'm just glad she loved it.
