In my culture, we usually say that twenty kids cannot play together for twenty years because at some point in time, they will all leave each other. And this also has made me realize that at some point in our lives, some of those who we think we know so well will start turning to a stranger gradually. This is what I have seen.
At some point in my life, I have woken up and looked around me to picture someone who I used to know so well, and I realized that I no longer know this person like I used to.

I have experienced this, and this happens to be one of my friends that we grew up together with from nursery school days, full of laughter and talking about everything, but now, we just talk once in a blue moon and not even about something detailed or share something important. It is not a friendship breakup, but everyone is just on their own. A female friend who used to share everything with me now hardly even says one or two words about her current life. Maybe Nigeria happened to them, or they were not getting that attention I used to give before.
In my culture, we strongly believe that if we are close to someone, we will understand them. I have come to realize that is not always the case. You can be close to someone and still not know anything about them. Even though you might be living under the same roof with someone drinking from the same cup, it is possible not to know what they are dealing with inside. People change, not because they want to, but pain, environment, survival, and growth can change us all.
Maybe truly those people have changed, or maybe they decided to show their true identity to us. What I know is that you can never know the inside of a man.

One thing about me is that I refuse to judge people, not because I do not wish to, but because I am also human, and I know what my people are passing through every day, and this is even enough reason for some to pull back just to find balance, and when the balance they seek finally comes, maybe they can show their faces again for who they truly are this time.
