真実と和解の日
「真実と和解の日」というのは、２０２１年からカナダの祝日で、毎年９月３０日に定められています。真実と和解の日はオレンジシャツの日としても認識され、シンボルであるオレンジ色の衣服を着て、二度と悲惨なできごとを繰り返さないために、エブリ・チャイルド・マターズの概念を今一度理解し合う日でもあります。
ローマ法王がカナダを訪れて、正式に寄宿学校で子供たちや先住民の方たちに起こったできごとに対する謝罪がなされたのも記憶に新しいと思います。私もニュース報道を見ていて、心が大変痛むとともに、二度とこんなことが起こってはいけないと感じました。残念ながら、世界でこのような残酷なことが起こった国はカナダだけではありません。日本の先住民に対してもそのような過去があったのも事実ですし、まだまだ大きな問題があります。世界中の子供たちやその子供たちを支える地域社会が、健全で一体性のあるものになって欲しいと心から願っています。
オレンジシャツの日は強制的に寄宿学校に入れられた先住民の子供たちが受けた凄惨な虐待とその家族たちに起こったできごとに対して敬意を示すための日です。オレンジ色のＴシャツを着てこの日を迎える人たちをたくさん見かけます。

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an official Canadian holiday established in 2021, observed every year on September 30th. This day is also recognized as Orange Shirt Day, during which people wear orange clothing to symbolize their commitment to understanding and remembering the 'Every Child Matters' concept, with the aim of ensuring that past atrocities are never repeated.
As we recall, there is still a fresh memory of the Roman Pope's visit and official apology to Indigenous peoples in Canada. I felt deep empathy while watching the news during that time, and I strongly believe that such incidents should never happen again. Regrettably, these incidents did not occur only in Canada. Many countries including Japan have similar dark chapters in their histories, and we continue to face significant challenges. I truly hope that our society and communities can provide comprehensive support for all children.
Orange Shirt Day aims to honour Indigenous children who were forced to attend residential schools rife with abuse. I see many people wear Orange T-shirts on this day.

「真実と和解の日」良い名称ですね。
日本には祝日の意味を知らないどころか、当日になって「え、今日は祝日？何の祝日？」と驚く人も多いのです。学校で祝日の意味を詳しく教えてほしいですね。あと日本にもこのように、悲惨な出来事に向き合う祝日があってもいいのではないかと思います。
そうですよね、明確でいい名称ですね。季節にちなんだ祝日もいいと思うのですが、悲惨な出来事をそのまま名前にして向き合うことも大事ですね。このような日が設けられても先住民の方への十分なサポートや差別認識がまだまだ足りないのが現実なのですが、被害者の方たちが隠さずに声をあげて伝えることができる日はあった方がいいなと思います。
本当ですね、学校や地域や家庭で、もっと深いことまで教えて欲しいことがたくさんありますよね。
