Manga Review: High School Girls and Priest

in The Anime Realmlast month

Joshikousei To Seishokusha-San (High School Girls and Priest) is an ecchi, school, and slice of life drama created by Zaise Roro. It ended in 30 chapters which made it a pick for binge reading.

The story takes place in Iokaju Private Girls School where Moguko Sensei teaches. His class includes some eccentric students ranging from a closet pervert, sadist, and a daydreamer indulging in sexual fantasies. Moguko's daily trial in school is to steer clear from temptation and uphold the teacher student relationship amidst the attention he's receiving from these girls.

I know this story is controversial and it's never going to be a crowd favorite given the themes in the story that centered around maintaining that teacher student relationship. This was spread around like it's a fun story where girls will try to seduce the sensei into giving in but that's only half of what really happens.

I encountered this gem after seeing this image spread around the boards:

It isn't straight up hentai but a school ecchi comedy or so the initial chapters let me thought it would be until the story gradually gets deeper and tackles on darker things about the girl's backstories. I did expect that it'll all be fanservice with a flat story but character developments do happen along with Sensei's questionable encounters with the girls.

Spoiler Warning: If you're interested in reading the story, don't bother reading further for spoiler reasons.

Sensei never had sex with his students. Despite the amount of chances he had been given to take advantage of their trust in him. He remained the "priest" till the end. He is a chad even when the girls are at a legal age of consent years after their encounter. He wasn't without flaws, in contrast to his stoic personality and stern expression hides a guilt he also tries to overcome from his own tragic experience.

While the initial chapters did the girls a brief introduction of their eccentricities, these impressions boxes the girls in a stereotype that undermines their reasons for their eccentricities. It's a response to their own trauma. But this is also a good thing in terms of character growth because these girls eventually break out from their stereotypes with Sensei's help in understanding them beyond face value.

I wouldn't be surprised if the mangaka also created hentai. The art style speaks for itself. I thought it's just a flat ecchi story that I'll drop out after the first 3 chapters but it was a good binge read right up to the end for the actual plot. Each character managed to distinguish themselves among the rest and that's what made it worthwhile to read.

Thank you for your time.

The number of stories like this that must be out there must be overwhelming. I'm not that into Hentai but I'm sure that more than one of them must have origins in some manga, I have no doubt.

Politically incorrect, it's true that more than one would complain but in the end these stories are very worthwhile. They have a dark and sometimes very realistic

I like manga more than the anime because a lot of the artistic parts of expression can sometimes get washed out during the anime adaptation like some scenes get censored because it's not for TV of for the global audience. But in it's purest forms of what the mangaka wanted to show, I like it raw and keep an open mind even if it's in poor taste because it's still art in expression.

Quoting Conner from this Katawa Shoujo video: “I came for the sex but learned how to feel again.” That sounds so much like the kind of vibe this gives (didn’t read the spoilers due to wanting to look into this one now). Thanks for sharing

“I came for the sex but learned how to feel again.”

Damn, this quote is beautiful. I'm keeping this.

I'm not so much of a manga reader, I've read very few, I'm more of a manhwa reader, I'm attracted by the fact that they are very colorful. Reading you, when you say that you thought it was just going to be boring echi, I still remember manhwa that I have time reading, this one... has hentai content, but... has very good character development, both the protagonist and all the members of the story, even I dare to say that if it did not have the hentai part, it would be a 10/10. Possibly, at some point I will make a review, which I have pending for a long time. it's called Circle

Hentai is more of depiction of sex with or without censor bars. Using sex and featuring the working parts visually as the selling point. Ecchi is a downgrade, you can still see parts of the working part but intimate acts are implied, but not shown totally, or treat it as softcore version to suggest something while hentai showcases it raw. It's a thin line.

I can definitely see how people would get triggered by the story, although it looks like an entertaining binge reading and the animation style looks nice as well.

Definitely not for everyone's taste~
