Hello! Another anime style of mine for this blog! This time, I am going to draw a male. So I was thinking of transforming one of my chibis into this style. I chose Lilith as my reference! By the way, she is up for grabs in NFT Showroom. You can check her out here.
In addition to Lilith, I picked some references from Pinterest such as the post and the clothing. It is mentioned later on.
Without further ado, let's start sketching!
Sketch time~
My art for this blog is inspired by one of my chibis! I chose Lilith as my reference character this time. So for the sketch, I made a simple portrait. The head is slightly at a downward angle. For the clothing, I used jacket references specifically Adidas. I chose this jacket because it is easy to identify with those two white strips on the shoulder. I used this picture for reference.
I added a couple of earrings for the character. Some cuff earrings on his left ear, and two dangling cross earrings on both ears. It is kind of a mess on this stage as per usual, hehe! For the background, I simple sketch some clouds or fog.
Lineart and the hair
I simply used a customized flat brush for the line art. I first drew the shape of the face. I try to flip it from time to time to see if it is proportioned. For the ears, I just drew a "C" and then make it like an ear. To save time, just copy and paste it and choose "transform" to adjust the ears depending on the portrait's angle.
Same to the eyes and brows, I usually copy-paste it to make it the same. My toxic trait in drawing is that when I am drawing a guy, I cannot help but put a broken eyebrow HAHA! My brain just can't leave a perfect eyebrow.
For the hair, I use a downloaded hair brush from Clip Studio Asset. Usually, what I observe from anime, guys with pink hair are usually cheerful or quirky. Hmm, I think my character is not that at all, hehe!
Flat colors and details~
For the colors, I used the color-pick tool to copy the colors from Lilith. Ahh~ This is what I like about references. I do not have to think about color coords or color harmony, haha! Saves time, I guess.
I chose the Adidas jacket because they are just so iconic. Whenever you see those two stripes, you know that it is Adidas mehehe~ I tweaked the jacket a little bit.
I added earrings because why not? ^_^ Accessories add character to the art. I put simple stud earrings, cuffed earrings, and a dangling cross earring. Originally in the sketch, it was supposed to be two cross earrings, but I think it is too much, so just one is enough.
Eyes, shadows, background
The eyes are red just like Lilith. I add a little streak of red to his left eye. It does not add much this time but later on, it will blend with the background. I added shadows on the face, ears, hair, and neck.
Also, I added highlights on the nose tip and bridge, also the hair. I soften the edges of the shadow to complement the overall look. I added a little heart under his right eye.
Final art
Yey~ we are almost done! I used a downloaded cloud brush for the green clouds. I added another layer at the top to make a gradient color of red and black. I just lowered the opacity to tone it a little bit. Another later on top are the streaks of red lines. I put it on "add" mode for the glow. I added a green glow at the edge of his neck and face, too.
Tadaaa~ It is finished! What should I name him? Ah, since he has this little heart on his face, let's name him Heart 🖤❤️🔥
