Handwriting isn't quite dead yet but, arguably, it's (generally) dying a slow death.
People type on computers, tablets and phones, dictate notes and bodies of text and so few write with their own hand any more and if they do it's only a few words here and there. Worse still is people don't even use their own brains to write, they use AI.
I'm a handwriting guy, meaning I still take notes on paper; my writing isn't very neat, quite terrible in fact, but I can (mostly) read it and prefer to take handwritten notes when on the phone, in meetings and in various other situations such as writing in my quote book; looking at my phone constantly is something I hate doing and I jump at any chance I get not to use my phone or computer - so handwriting it is.
Handwriting is a perishable skill, if not used it will diminish, as will the skill-of-thought that's behind what's handwritten; maybe less of an issue when one's handwriting is as bad as mine, but still not a good thing. Along with diminishing skills in handwriting comes the same with spelling and punctuation, an area that is often terrible to begin with in many people. With spellcheckers and AI people are becoming even more lazy and less likely to learn to spell correctly or use the right punctuation - AI I will do it for them. Sad really. (I hate AI so much)
Anyway, I thought I'd do an experiment on you folks and hand out some comment votes along the way. All you have to do is read the task below and do the task if you want to. I'll get involved with some commenting on those that have a go in the comments below.
The mission - should you choose to accept it
Write your favourite quote on paper in your own handwriting, take a photo of it and post it in the comments explaining why you like the quote.
I'm not sure how many will respond, that's sort of the experiment I guess, and if it's nobody that's ok, doesn't bother me at all, but I figure it'll be fun to see what people's handwriting is like and it'll give me a chance to issue some votes on those who have taken the time to get involved. Don't worry, no one's going to pick on you if your handwriting is really messy and if they do it's because they're a fucktard.

My mantra

Lil' Guy...
My most dramatic animal rescue ever was the Orange Tabby I named him Lil' Guy
I see myself in him.
Lol...quote from Road House! Love it.
"Begin, be bold, and venture to be wise." A somewhat loose translation of Dimidium facti qui coepit habet: sapere aude; incipe! from First Book of Letters by Horace. Despite not being an entirely accurate translation, I've always liked the way it was phrased, so, ever since I first read it at university, I include it on the first page of any journal or notebook I have.
Nice quote and quite stylish handwriting too!
My handwriting is utterly crap, the quote is
It's so true because if you rely on others, you can easily get bad outcomes, it's always better to do yourself all the things
Nice quote.
NiceInteresting handwriting. 😉“Life is easy if you work hard and it’s hard if you work easy.” - Greg McKeown
I like this quote because it inspires me both when I am working hard or when I am not. I also find it rings so true, the harder I work the easier life is.
So true. It's all about having ownership, responsibility and discipline - or so I believe.
You have pretty good handwriting. Although, that's coming from a bloke who's handwriting looks like a deranged, chimpanzee on crack with a bad case of covid-19 wrote it.
😂
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. Cheers.
I really like this quote from Einstein because during the 2017 crisis, it was very timely to visualize many options that helped to visualize many options for preparing food. Having a closed mind, I think the idea of preparing arepas with vegetables, among others, would never have arisen. It also applies to everyday life. What we think may be the best solution to a certain situation may not be the case. Having an open mind allows us to broaden the field of possibilities and evaluate various alternatives.
Yeah, Einstein was a smart cookie indeed. Nice handwriting!
I am fascinated by Einstein's quotes. I don't have a favorite, I have many, but this is one of them, especially because imagination and creativity are very important to me.
Albert Einstein, one of those responsible for convincing President Roosevelt to pursue the research and development of nuclear weapons.
The biggest mistake of his life...
Who dares, can. He who does not know fear, goes forward!
Živojin Mišić, Serbian military leader from World War I.
This fantastic motivational message (spoken in wartime and applicable in everyday life) emphasizes how courage, determination and overcoming fear are necessary to progress in life.
I wrote in Serbian Cyrillic throughout elementary school, but in high school and at university, due to the speed of taking notes and very poor handwriting in written letters, I started with the Latin alphabet, which is also disastrous for recognition 🙂
Your handwriting actually looks somewhat like my own. (Yours is probably marginally neater though. Great quote too!
Shit, I feel like a bloody illiterate now coz I don't have a favourite quote apart from something cliché like YOLO 😀
I handwrite less and less nowadays, five Christmas cards a year doesn't take long.
So I made an effort to jot down vocabulary whilst learning Spanish recently. I find it sticks in my head a little better and gives me more chance to hand write stuff.
No quotes here unfortunately, unless counting counts

Suficientemente cerca.
Perfecto
I do not do handwriting that much these days, aside from maybe when writing on sticky notes. That said, I haven't changed that much in terms of the quality of my handwriting aside from the font size becoming larger compared to how I used to write until my college years. I like every Hitchen's quote, but this quote always reminded me of him from one of his closing speeches, and the quote that immediately comes into my mind.
It's a great quote and I like that it applies to everyone on the planet. (Or should).
It should, especially today, with information easily manipulated or faked. Unfortunately, some won't take the risk of thinking for other things, such as comfort or a sense of belonging.
My handwriting is absolutely terrible. I type like the wind, but on the rare occasion I pick up a pen I write like a 3 year old with parkinsons.
Haha, yeah my handwriting has never been good either, I've made peace with it.
One of my favorite quotes is from anime(One outs) character Tokuchi Toua - a low possibility means it's not zero. I think that this quote encourages people to believe in themselves and try their best to achieve their dreams. Because nothing will happen without our trying so it is better to try and fail than not to try all.
As you can see my handwriting is quite bad. Sometimes even I have hard time understanding it.
A good quote indicating that one should try even when there's a small chance of success.
Opportunities don't happen, you can create them.
Honestly, I like this quote the most because it's so relevant to my life and because many things in the world have been created by people who have seized opportunities. Actually opportunities never happen by chance, but they can be created through thoughts.
Yep, being a go-getter is better than being a wait for someone else to do it sort of person.
I'm so glad I stumbled on this post. This is also my sentiment because I like to write too. I do not miss an opportunity to get a notepad shared by friends or from work because I know I will definitely use them. I go along with my pens or pencils and note pads at meeting or other events just to take notes even though I have these devices I can also use. I do not like that writing is getting lost on us these days. Electronic devices can also be distracting when you mean to take notes on them.
I like this quote attached and always remind myself of it when the thought of doing something shabbily comes to mind. My mum would always use it while growing up just to let us know that if we wanted to do our chores which are important tasks, we should endeavor to do it right not rush through it then have to do it again when our attention is called to how badly we did it. So growing up, it kind of stuck with me and I would use it for myself and anyone who wanted to do a wishy washy task around me😁
It's good that this has stuck with you from a young age and has served you well into your adulthood. Well done.
Thank you 🙏🏽
I created an entire community on handwritten stuff. Go look at it if you want to see people's hand writing on HIVE! :P
Nah, I'd rather look at people who took the opportunity to respond to this post.
I like encouraging those that share the same ideals as your post - people using their brains to write, with their bodies, instead of AI - that is where hand writing is awesome!
The community is about two months old, I think it will be a slow burn :)
I'm trying to get people to comment, engage and interact with others, that's the whole reason I do these posts, and feel the only way most will do so is if I reward them by getting involved.
I like hand writing too. I don't do it that much, but it is part of the reason I bought a digital tablet. I can still keep all my notes in one easy format, but I still have to hand write them. I think it absorbs more mentally when you have to do that. My niece just went off to college and I am thinking about hand writing her a letter now that she has a mailbox.
Yeah, those digital things are a good compromise I think.
I am also a pen and paper guy. I feel comfortable writing myself in an analog way.
Cool.

I think this quote encapsulates my entire existence from birth through my late twenties lol. Pity it took so damned long. Now, it shapes my life on a daily basis.
Same here! Typing makes me forget faster, but handwriting helps the lessons stick.
