It's that time of year when racing starts again and what a great time of the year it is for a fellow like me who loves motor racing.
Formula One racing is my main focus, a sport I've followed since I was nine years old, and I've most lately been watching winter testing and consuming every little bit of information I can get prior to the season kicking off in Australia in a couple of weeks. This year sees a totally new car being required, new engines, new aerodynamics and even new teams with a factory Audi entry and the American Cadillac F1 team joining the grid for the first time taking the number of cars on the grid to 22 each race. I'm looking forward to it.
I follow other forms of motorsport as well including sports cars, Indycars, MotoGP and a few others however it's Formula One racing that gets most of my attention.
They say something like 850 million people around the world are Formula One fans and that sounds about right; it's a global sport which races in many countries throughout it's 24 race schedule and I'm fortunate enough to have live access to every practice, qualifying and race session so on race weekends...well, I make sure I clear my diary.
I'm passionate about motor racing, have done a lot of it myself and have been watching racing for a long time...but I know so many people hate it. I've heard things like, who wants to watch cars go round and round, and that's fair enough. I mean, we all have our interests...some people like to pretend they have a life through playing computer games rather than live life in the real world, some like to dumb-themselves-down on Facebook and create drama and that's their prerogative right? Well, watching motor racing is no different, just an interest some have.
What do you like doing with your free time, what do you get passionate about?

Don't forget the ones who devoted their lives to Jesus...
Haha!
I don't know much about F1. I used to watch NASCAR a great deal. Don't watch it much anymore though. Most of the old drivers I liked are retired now. Will watch the Indy 500 when it is on. But don't follow the circuit. I have heard F1 is pretty fun to watch.
I got all kinds of free time since I am semi-retired. I spend most of it reading, working on little projects around the house, studies, writing, watching the idiot box, and fiddling with coins. When spring gets here, some of that will be replaced with projects outside, working in the lawn, sitting on the patio, BBQ, drinking beer on the patio, and going for walks. Ran low on funds so my radio hobby had to be put on hold for now, but this spring should be able to get my antennas up and operating on the Air waves as well.
F1 is more than just car racing as there's a technical side, political, the rumor mill and so on. I try to consume as much as possible but the bare minimum is the race weekend in its entirety.
I like that you have a heap of things in your life. I'm looking forward to that retirement from the workforce thing so I can get even more engaged with life. I have a long list of things I want to start and do and want to get more active in some of the things I already do. I'll also increase my support-work with veterans and a few other things I don't talk about on here. I can hardly wait!
That is what I have heard about F1. They really go into the technical aspects of it. The engineering and mechanics of the cars. I would love that.
Make sure you are able to retire normally though. Don't be forced to retire for health reasons like me. I get it about the long list. I would like to do some more traveling here in the States. Just need to get me and the good lady a bit better first.
It is awesome you work with vets like you do. It surely helps them out a great deal. I know just reading some of your posts have helped me.
I'm in for early retirement, my superannuation and other investments (401K I think you call it) are healthy and I've spent the last several years planning the exit. I'll be comfortable, able to do what I want and when, so should be good. I hope I don't die prior though.
The work I do with veterans...helps me and others at the same time so it seems worth the effort and it's pretty rewarding to turn people's lives around, even if it's my own sometimes as well.
My father used to (and still does) watch a every F1 or MotoGP race and test, I never got interested into that... I used to follow a lot serie a, like the weekend was dedicated to that, radio from stadium commenters and such, then life happened and free time got reduced, also serie a quality lowered like crap, no more Totti, del Piero, Baggio etc... Now I just read some book, watch some movie now and then, play a bit, all things I can interrupt and keep going later
I'm a motor-head, love cars, and so I watch racing of all sorts.
Actually, we've just won a MotoGP here in my own city. We used to host the Australian F1 GP until it went to Melbourne, Victoria so it's nice to take the MotoGP from Phillip Island, Victoria and bring it over here. The last race on Phillip Island is this year and from 2027 it's here. A street circuit. (I'll be there.)
I remember commentators calling Philip island! If it moves close to you that's a good chance to go watch it
Yeah mate, literally a few kilometres from where my house is so I'll get involved. I went to every F1 race we had here starting in 1985 so am looking forward for this international event to come back.
few kilimeters away sounds a chance you can't miss, you could be able to hear the race from home!
I'd not be able to hear the bikes but I could hear the F1 cars which were very loud back then. Was awesome.
The cars do go in circles. :) I couldn't steal your burger last night and my salt and pepper squid took forever.
Bloody salt and pepper squid always lagging behind, sometimes. I'm away for work, no salt and pepper squid meals for me...steak last night, mushroom gravy, side salad. Was costly, but the company pays so I found it quite cheap. 😄
There are many things I love to do in my free time, such as writing and painting, but you already know that. I like mystery, suspense and action films with unexpected twists, and I love walking on the beach or hiking. And the simplest thing of all, spending time with my cats, playing with them... they're already thirteen and a half years old!
Cats are an awesome way to spend some time.
Without a doubt, it's very good! I enjoy it immensely!
As you know I spend a lot of my free time in the summer camping. I also like to play disc golf, so I do a bit of that from time to time when the weather is nice. My parents are big into NASCAR, but I kind of stopped watching when I got older. That should make for an interesting season with all the changes they are making in Formula 1. We have a small dirt track down the road from where we live. I used to go when I was younger, but haven't been since I moved closer to it.
The F1 season should definitely be interesting although I don't really like the way the technical regulations are headed. I'm not into all the electricity power thing and they have another series that is full electric (Formula E) so I'm against them leaning that way in Formula 1. I don't get to make the rules though.
I used to watch a lot of NASCAR but have backed it off. There's Aussies racing on it though, always good to see how they go.
I had heard there was an electric league now for F1. Very interesting. Makes sense that they should keep the two separate.
It's probably unconventional, but I am passionate about financial markets/investments. There is always something new to discover and learn, it's interesting to look at what various companies are doing in this complex world.
You seem to often start comments about what you like or do with an apology of some sort as if what you choose to do isn't valid.
Oops haha.. Maybe it's my way of writing. I guess you are right in a way, and I do acknowledge I am a little different from most people. ><
I hardly ever watch F1 (it's really stupid to say that I find it monotonous, with that kind of driving).
I believe that watching live is a hundredth dimension - I felt it when I attended a Drift competition...
A MotoGP seems much more interesting on TV, more overtaking, changing positions, I think motorcyclists are even "crazier" drivers.
Time spent outside is the best free time for me.
A walk, a trip in nature, even reading a book on a park bench...
I find many people monotonous, so I can relate to you.
