Enlightenment - a 5 minute Free Write - prompt "Pattern Recognition"

A solitary tree on the horizon cast a cascading shadow long across the barren windswept landscape. Even nature itself was uneasy here, yet on he walked not phased be what he saw. For years he knew that his calling was different. Years of wandering and a transient lifestyle had brought him here.

He was not sure exactly what it was that he was looking for, but yet he knew that he was close. His last contact with any human was around twelve days ago when he set out hiking from a base near Bhaktapur, a small town around 11km South East of Kathmandu. He dismissed his Nepalese Sherpa after a few days and opted instead to carry his own bag of provisions, but what weighed heaviest were his expectations. Through his most transformative years, he had learned meditations and practices which elevated his level of consciousness. In this state, he could perceive things and know things that would ordinarily be untenable for man or beast.

His recurring dream of recent nights was a mix of purple and yellow, with white and red dashes and dots, lines and floral shapes of red and yellow. He could not make sense of it. The colours danced together and always finished in the same pattern and a voice began to speak. It was at this point each night he would wake with a start. As he looked towards the stars, they would shine back and the light which had travelled millions of light years reassured him. He was on the right path.

In the distance a silhouette joined the lonesome tree upon the backdrop, it looked like a man dressed in robes. He walked closer until he could see him more clearly. As he walked towards the man, he slowly raised his hand and summoned him to his side. He whispered something into his ear and then walked away slowly.

A weight was lifted.

The journey was over.

Five Minute Free Writes

Well it feels like an absolute age since I last did a freewrite, life has been busy and the days keep coming floating by one after the next.
Well I'm back, so let's have another crack I thought before getting stuck into the above prompt from @mariannewest the prompt master! I tend to set a timer of five minutes to write mine with no edits.

So, do you know about Free writes? When I first arrived on Hive or the previous chain, I would often struggle for ideas on what to write about, and there were two writing initiatives that really helped - one was called #fiftywords where you could use only fifty words to tell a story about a prompt word and the other was #freewrite which basically sets a challenge of writing a mini story within 5 minutes. I regularly took part in both, and people like @mariannewest and @felt.buzz and loads of other brilliant people, so every now and then I see a post from @mariannewest and think to myself, go and do a freewrite. I hope to continue to pop in every now and then to say hello.

Maybe you've never heard of the freewrites yourself, and if that is the case, I'd encourage you to have a go, read about todays prompt and how to enter below and above all else mind yourself and have a great day - smile, rub a dog, help a stranger and just be a nice human.

You did all that in less than 5 minutes?! I could definitely use help with my opening sentences then. And opening paragraphs.

Titles, too, those really fuck with me. And don't even get me started on the post button!

Ya the writing bit was 5 minutes. I do it differently each time, but often think about the prompt for a while on my lunchbreak and when I have an idea, I tease it out a bit in my head, on what I want to say and where the story will go. The story can sometimes evolve and not go where I was planning, I just kind of blurt it out if you will..

For this one, I searched some images on Pixabay before I started writing it and that guy with the pattern on his face showed up in results, so I kind of based the narrative around that and Nepal..

Did you just.. you did. You said blurt.
