5-minute Freewrite: His feet were bare

in Freewriters2 years ago (edited)

Last Saturday was the fifth day of the Chinese New Year, the sun was just about to peek out from the silver linings of dawn. In the background of the curtain sillouete were the whispering sounds of my littles who were already excited to be up on a brand new day.

"Papa, papa, please... bring us to the beach today!" Those were the pleas from our firstborn, who have been persistently reminding us that she needed seashells for her school work. After grabbing some fishballs and siew mai on the go, we reached Teluk Batik, it was a 15-minute drive from our home. The sun was already smiling from above and you could see that the crowd was also slowly growing.

Due to the pandemic, many little businesses were affected. As the market gradually opened, you could see that businesses and crowds were eager to be out and about. The ice cream carts, stalls that sell merchandise sprouted like mushrooms. Even scooter rents and banana boat activities were seen providing their services to get in more crowds.

Bringing a truckload of children, we were cautious mainly because our children were 7 and below and unvaccinated. Life goes on but we are to be wise to err on the cautious side so we stood as far as we could from the crowd while enjoying ourselves. It was a breezy sunny morning, and this tree really caught my attention. What a big shady magnificent tree! We took our time to just look around and enjoy our surroundings. And while at that, visiting the ice cream cart at the beach is a must!

After quenching our thirsts, my big girl proceeded to find some seashells for her school work. Her younger brother helped and enjoyed digging into the sand, too. We managed to find a handful in a short while.

While we wish we could jump into the waters, we were already prepared to leave back to KL after lunch that day so we decided to just drop by a little while. And while we didn't get the luxury to enjoy the sandy beach much then, we did get to take a picture with our slippers on for the fun of it, while baby brother, well, his feet were bare. Haha! And oh, this was also his first visit to the beach albeit a short one!

Fast forward to last Sunday and back to KL, we were feeling homesick and exhausted from the travels, after passing some Chinese New Year goodies to our friends on the next block, papa brought the children to the poolside for a walk just so we could catch some breather.

Our children love the water and so, they were naturally drawn and they quickly went to play by the children poolside.

Looking at these photos reminded me to look at the simple pleasures of life through the eyes of children and we'll see that life is worth living for.

And while at it, be like my baby, screaming and laughing in his baby belly laughs while dipping his bare feet into the cold waters, splashing them with much delight!

Eh! I purchased aiskrim from the same aiskrim truck with that little patung harimau 🤣

Haha what a coincidence!!

Your kids are cuties! I missed my kids when they were at that age now that they are older and my eldest is a teen 😄

Aww thank you, you're too kind. Yes, the days are long but the years are short. Time flies. My firstborn will be in P1 next month. Sobs.

P1 is indeed a milestone 😁. My youngest is a year older than your daughter but because of the pandemic, he went to school like maybe 4 months at most.
