Born to some peasant farmers in the remote part of the country Rodriguez have never seen the good sides of life. He is used to survival through the hard way. Honesty and hardwork is usually his stock in trade for without them one can hardly survive in the countryside.
Having managed to go through high school Rodriguez could not further his education. He in essence decided to go into full scale agriculture. But he does not have the needed resources. He is left with no option but to farm like every other peasant farmer.
The first year of harvest was very poor. This is much expected because he could not purchase neither fertilisers not the improved variety. He was left in tears during the harvesting of crops in his farm. Having spent so much on labour and security he was expecting to recoup his expenses from the grains sales but that was not to be.
The next year Rodriguez approached a mircorfinace bank for a soft loan to enable him but fertilizers. When asked about collateral he presented none. He knew at that point that his inability to produce a collateral is an obstacle to living a good life which he envisages.
He was determined to get some help this time so as to harvest bountifully. Rodriguez had to approach his friend who was able to process a soft loan for him.
