I am going to be a doctor said I while prancing around the room. Not just any doctor. I am going to be a pediatrician I said while giggling from ear to ear.
Somewhere deep down within me I didn’t even know what am talking about neither did I understand what the word pediatrician means.
I had come across that term and it sounded beautiful in my ears and I thought oh it would be nice to use it often when talking about my future carrier. We all had our dreams on what we wanted to become.
It was later I found out that a pediatrician was a doctor for children. Well, not bad after all. I could handle that I said. I want to be an engineer my friend blotted out. A civil engineer she said. Well that sounded cool too as we giggled from ear to ear. We were painters of our dreams.
All things being equal, we would study hard and become what we want to be in the future. Well, most times, all things are never equal and we don’t always get what we wanted.
Times have come and gone, I don’t know if my friend later became an engineer because we lost track of each other growing up as for me, am very far from being a pediatrician.
I am not even close to it. Am not where I used to be and am not also where I want to be but am grateful for all things and at least for the privilege to paint my dreams.
