Well, I had run across a scientist on line after noticing something while falling asleep. If not, I would not have stopped to consider Ana's work. Read on.
When my body was not presenting buzzing or vibrations in one part of it or another, I was left to fall asleep in peace one day. I sleep in the dark, I mean really dark. Some nights I thought I might be seeing things because I saw tiny colorful lights while I was waiting to fall asleep sometimes.
I thought I was "seeing stars" as depicted in the cartoons of old, but that has happened to me in the past and those stars are white and take up most of your field of view when they happen. Besides, you see stars when you get hit in the head, not when you are falling asleep. Besides that, the tiny pin-point sized lights I saw were of different colors. There were blue, white, yellow, pink and bright red ones when I saw them.
Whenever this happened, I thought it was in my imagination. Many times when it occurred, I would open my eyes quickly due to my surprise. Immediately they were gone. Then I would close my eyes and there they were again, moving around as if in little zones. I mean, they were not like shooting stars or traveling around as if in space. For that reason, I said "Under the eyelids" in the title. Whatever they are, I can only see them when my eyelids are closed.
They are what I call sparkles because when you see something, like a pond from a distance, sparkling on a sunny day, the light does not last long. These glow and get dim like those pond sparkles. There was a time when I explained the condition to a close relative, they asked me if it was happening now. Well, it was daytime so I could not say. I tried putting my hands cupped over my eyes and closed my eyelids. I did not see them. On another occasion, I tried that again and it was evening. I did see them but they were not as clearly seen as they are at night time.
I believe these sparkles, if they exist, can be seen only in complete darkness or possibly when your eyes have adjusted to an evening time light before checking for them. For the same reason you cannot see in a cave, if you have just gone into that cave out of the bright sun, you will not be able to see these tiny lit pin pricks. But if you stay in a cave for some time, you will see everything that is in there clearly by letting your eyes adjust. The light inside the cave has not changed, but your eyes have adjusted. The next time my family member asked be to check if they are there during the daytime, I cupped my palms over my eyes sealing all light from getting in and I waited. It took a long time but when my eyes adjusted, I saw the colored sparkles.
Why is this important? It wasn't important at first. It was just strange. Then I saw the work that Dr. Ana Mihelcea's does in Dark Field Microscopy and what she sees on the slides that she puts in her microscope. Based on her work, I can tell yo that what I am seeing is probably the same thing she is seeing. My best guess is that the illuminated dots are about 1/40th the size of a blood cell.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone can see something so small. It is only a guess. But on the other hand, if your eyes are fully adjusted to the darkness, any light can be seen no matter how slight it is. Whenever I sleep at my office on the couch, again in complete darkness, I can see the particles inside the fluorescent tubes moving about at the ends where the contacts are. If I wake up in the morning and do not reach for my phone, I still see them glowing and moving even eight hours after the light has been turned off. I know that the dust inside a fluorescent bulb is tiny
The odd things I am writing about have gotten much worse since 2023 when these signs started. I am attempting to start from the beginning as it were. They tell me that this platform is not censored like the bigger platforms. I just want what I write to stay up kind of like a medical history. If I ever find a doctor who is interested in doing more than a cholesterol
or glucose test to help me with the symptoms, I want to be able to send him to this blog for information. My other hope is that someone runs into this blog who has similar symptoms and maybe we can help each other.
I hope it is okay to write for slightly longer that five minutes. I really enjoy the Freewriters community and I am enjoying writing about these things if for no other reason than to get it out there.
