“OK, so I've done this first business plan because I see nine-year-olds are doing big things, and Vertran next door who already has a business and his dad as business manager and is nine helped me – the thing is, Cousin Harry, kids like me and young people like Vanna dealing with free trials that are not as free as you thought and all of us living in this hyena arena of a disaster capitalism need the Ludlow Law Firm – we need this, and we need it now!”

“And I'm going to make sure George looks good in court so he wins all his cases, too! Good lawyers are always fashionable in their suits!”

Col. H.F. Lee smiled at his two little Ludlow cousins, nine-year-old George and eight-year-old Edwina, and took the business plan George was holding out to him.

“I'm so delighted to see the two of you not breaking bad but building good together,” he said, and the two little ones beamed.

“Well, Edwina and I used to fight, but, there's too many other people out there that are messing up, so we need to fight them together!”

“Yeah – breaking bad together on those who really deserve it! I still want all the smoke, Cousin Harry, but let's take all their money and burn it!”

“Yeah – it's a money-burning party – ay! Ay!”

George and Edwina started dancing around, and Mrs. Maggie Lee was delighted to see her husband loose enough to join the dancing for a few moments before sitting down between the two and reading the plan.

“I see that you learned about addressable markets from Mr. Stepforth next door, and this is good,” the colonel said after a moment.

“Yeah, he showed us Investopedia, and Vertran really knows his way around there!” George said.

“The marketing in here is really good, too,” the colonel said. “You know who you want to promote the Ludlow Law Firm to, and what is important to your future clients.”

“Of course! We know what they need because we are them and we all need this!” Edwina said.

“That's going to make for some very strong advertising messages,” the colonel said.

“Yeah – I was born for drama!” Edwina said.

“And this is good because that means I don't have to do all the commercials!” George said. “Let the drama people do the drama stuff while I handle the legal eagle stuff!”

“Division of labor; another good idea,” the colonel said.

“Now, we really want to take you on as a partner too since you're already a lawyer – Ludlow and Lee has a nice, fashionable ring to it,” Edwina said.

“It is an honor to be asked to be part of such an endeavor,” Col. Lee said, “so let me prove that I am a worthy partner right now by pointing out the few little problems we might have.”

“OK, but, we know this is foolproof!” George said.

“Because the people need it!” Edwina said.

“They do indeed,” Col. Lee said, “but for you to be ready, you have to first either go to college and law school and pass the bar – a big legal test – or, study for and pass the bar based on your general education without going to law school. You'll probably want to at least complete elementary school before you try that.”

George and Edwina looked at each other.

“Well, that's not too bad – I'm nine, so, if I study really hard this summer and over Christmas, I can graduate elementary school a year early!”

“And we drive past bars all the time – how hard can it be to just pass another one?” Edwina said.

“And, the time both of you have until graduation will give you time to work out things like trademarks and trade dress – what font do you want for the Ludlow and Lee Law Firm stationery and business cards, and what colors do you want on all that so you know what colors to get your suits and dresses in.”

“Oh yeah, we gotta figure all that out, because we have to be the best-looking law firm out here if I'm going to be involved in it,” Edwina said.

“And then we need to make sure – and since I am an experienced musician – that our theme song hits right, and I'll work with Melvin next door on getting a beat for it,” the colonel said, and then winked at his wife before leaping up with the new version:

“Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!
Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!
Yes, we're taking all their money cuz' they don't need to have it –
Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!”

In another minute, every child on the cul-de-sac was dancing around the yard with the colonel after George and Edwina explained what was going on, and 21-year-old Melvin Trent found the right beat on the spot!

“We're not going to tell them that there's no way, are we?” Mr. Thomas Stepforth said to his wife Mrs. Velma Stepforth.

“With that kind of sweet beat going – oh, heck no!” Mrs. Stepforth said, and danced off the porch.

“Hey, look!” Vertran said. “Grandma's turning up!”

“No – we're burning up!” Mrs. Stepforth said. “Burn it up! Burn it up!”

“Hey! Hey!” Mr. Stepforth said as he got off the porch and joined the dance.

“Burn it up! Burn it up!”

“Hey! Hey!”

“Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!
Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!
Yes, we're taking all their money cuz' they don't need to have it –
Got a money-burning party going on – Ay!”

Mrs. Lee came on out to join the fun, and so did Melvin and Vanna (days-from-18) and Tom Stepforth III (16), so, the first jingle for the future Ludlow and Lee Law Firm was definitely a success!

Sort:

And we drive past bars all the time – how hard can it be to just pass another one?” Edwina said. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, out of the mouths of babes.
