There are days when everything seems to move faster than me.
The kettle whistles before I’m fully awake, the laundry pile grows while I’m not looking, and the morning light slips across the floor
like it’s racing toward someplace better.
Even the dog is two steps ahead of me,tail up, nose in the wind,
already planning adventures as if I’m the one slowing him down.
Outside, the trail behind my house is covered with a thin layer of frost —that quiet kind of cold that makes you breathe a little deeper and think a little slower.
I start walking, listening to the crunch under my steps, feeling my heartbeat settle into something that finally feels like peace.
But still… I feel like I’m trailing behind the world.
Behind the sun that rises too early.
Behind goals I said I’d finish.
Behind people who seem to have more energy, more luck, more
direction.
Yet somewhere on that forest path I hear the soft beat of my own pace —steady, calm, stubborn in its own way.
Not fast.Not perfect.But mine.
Later, back home,I see small fingerprints on the living room glass, crumbs under the table,a forgotten sock on the couch.Tiny reminders that life is happening —right here —not rushing ahead of me.And maybe trailing behind isn’t always a failure.Maybe it’s a chance to notice the things fast people miss.
Like the way breath curls in the cold air.
Like the sound of leaves giving way under your shoes.
Like the warm chaos of a home waiting for you.
Like the quiet victory of showing up even when you feel slow.
Maybe trailing behind is actually a way of staying close to what matters.
A way of remembering that not every race is meant to be won —
some are meant to be lived.
Step by step.Heart first.
Always forward, even if the world is a few steps ahead.
