The urge to tell her she's beautiful is strong today. But so is the fear of the unknown. As she advances, 3, 2, 1 step away, I open my mouth only to close it again, a sad coward dying another of his thousand deaths. I mumble, "Hi" instead.
I think I entered this contest a long time ago but I was off of Hive for a while so this might actually be my first entry! When I saw the prompt, this is the story that came to mind. I almost feel sorry for the guy that I couldn't give him a happier outcome but this is the way the story turned out. Maybe I'll write another one and he'll be braver.
