Henry had always loved riding motorcycles, despite his mother's constant warnings about how dangerous it could be especially on rainy days. But Henry couldn’t care less; riding was his passion, and it gave him immense pleasure.

He lived in a small community with his mom. The people in the community lived like one big family and often organized competitions for young men, women, and children. During these events, the best biker, swimmer, fighter, and dancer were selected.

Those chosen as the best became the celebrities of the town. Whenever the competition season approached, eligible participants began preparing and practicing. The community loved these performances, it was a source of joy, unity, and liveliness.

Henry wanted to be part of that year’s event and believed he would win once he got on stage. He told his mother about his plans, but she didn’t support him. According to her, bikers were reckless; they knew how to speed up but not how to slow down. She wasn’t ready to risk losing her only son, especially in a competition where everyone was fighting to win.

The competition was fast approaching, but Henry didn’t have a bike or a helmet, both of which were mandatory to enter. He had been saving since the previous year to buy a motorcycle, though he wasn’t sure if he had enough money. Two months before the competition, Henry finally bought a motorcycle. He spent his entire savings on it and fondly called it “his baby.”

His mom was disappointed, but Henry didn’t mind much. He believed that doing what he loved was the key to happiness and fulfillment. With his new motorcycle, he began intense practice sessions. Deep down, he was already convinced that he would win.

As the competition drew closer, he realized that his helmet had become weak and could break at any moment. Unfortunately, he had no money left to buy a new one. So, he decided to make do with the old one.

On the day of the competition, all the contestants showed up with their bikes and helmets Henry included. Although he had little faith in his helmet, he brought it along anyway. Just as the competition was about to begin, he picked up the helmet to wear it, but it fell and broke. All eyes turned to him, it was an automatic disqualification.

The official in charge told him to leave the stage. But as Henry turned toward the spectators, he saw his mother waving something in the air. It was a brand new helmet.

At first, he thought he was dreaming, but she kept waving and shouting, “Henry, come get your helmet!”

Henry ran as fast as he could toward her, but he couldn’t reach her directly due to the crowd. So, he shouted, “Please, PASS ME THE HELMET!”

The helmet began to move from hand to hand through the crowd until it finally reached him. He ran back, put it on, and got ready—this time with his mother’s full support.

And at last, he won the competition.

It hits different when you choose joy, no matter what it takes. Life just has a way of aligning things for you just like Henry’s mum eventually came around with full support. At that point, Henry had no excuse to lose anymore 😄
