Of the blood of the innocent
Have we made an ocean
From the dispensation of justice
Have we made staggering fortune
From counting the votes
Have we made ourselves counted more
From fighting corruption
Have we had ourselves corrupted
From comforting others
Have we made more people bereaved
From feeding others
Have we starved many
From the mountaintop of independence
Have we found ourselves in the valley of a failed state
