Peace Keeping| AN ORIGINAL POEM

in Freewriters3 years ago

In battalions, we have come
To keep peace.
With armour tanks, we have come
To keep peace.
With uniforms like leaves, we have come
To bring the morning dew
And to return birds to their nests.
With rifles and bombs, we have come
To widow lucky women
And to orphan unfortunate children
For all must be done
To keep peace.
For peace is the prisoner
Of the mightiest man in town

Excellent. It reminds me of a quote by a US soldier during the Vietnam War. As follows:

"It became necessary to destroy the town in order to save it," a United States major said.

The paradox in the above statement is staggering and sarcastic, to say the least. Although I have never seen this quote before now, my poem appears to be an elaborate version of this fine quote. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by. Your comments are a kind of validation each time I see them. Thanks.
