Peter was extremely tired after a long day at work. It was quite a challenging job after being without a job for so long. It was getting darker outside as he walked into his apartment. Everything was clean and in its place, and he walked straight to the kitchen to switch on the radio. He took a seat at the kitchen table and listened to the song playing. He started to relax but then heard his tummy rumbling.

He stood up and opened the freezer. He took out the top container, and walked over to the microwave. One thing that he was grateful for, was the precooked food that his mom still dropped off once a week. A mother will always be a mother. She didn't want him to live off junk food, and she knew that he worked hard and would have little time to cook, but she was extremely grateful that he was able to get his independence back.

While he waited for the food to warm up he poured himself a glass of wine and sat down again.

He was grateful that he could function on his own again. He had become so dependent on his parents after the accident. He had no choice but to move in with them. He knew he was different and stubborn but as he became accustomed to his condition things became easier. It took nearly six years for him to get as far as he was now.

After the accident he couldn't return to his old job which was a godsend as he hated that job, so indirectly the accident changed his life in more than one way.

After the accident he really got to know and explore himself, and while he was in rehabilitation he discovered so much about himself.

Funny enough, that at the time while he was flat on the ground, and certainly not rational enough to make good decisions, he made the best decision of his life.

He heard the microwave and after he ate, he rinsed his plate and dried it. He sat down again to finish his glass of wine. He listened to some more music and thought about his day. He absolutely loved his job as a teacher. His satisfaction level could not be described to anyone and it felt as if his soul was fed on a daily basis. After he finished his wine, he took his white cane and and scanned the way to his room.

He felt totally relaxed when he maneuvered his way towards his bedroom. He had a cleaning lady that came in once a week and she was instructed not to move anything around. He put the white cane next to his bed on its usual place and took off his clothes to put on his pajamas. He took his alarm clock and checked with his fingers if the alarm clock was set correctly.

Six o clock. Perfect. Tomorrow was another day. He couldn't wait to see the children again, and realized how amazing it was to see things from a different angle. It was amazing what you can see in the heart of a child, even if you are blind.
