Global Choking | A 5-Minute FreeWrite

Today's global struggle seems to be the same as yesterday's, the previous century's, or a millenium ago.

Poor Vs. Rich. Power Vs. Humanity. Ego vs Service. Us Vs Them.

Politicians and business people meet, talk, write books, give speeches, and keep saying what everybody knows. They keep promising to solve the problems they themselves have created. They warn about the consequences, and yet, nothing gets done by those who can; things only get worse for the whole world.

In the last 20 years (and especially in the last 8), Venezuelans have been forced to migrate to every Latin American and European country like never before in our history. They are looking for a future, for a way out of this mess, and yet, they keep living deja vus everywhere they go.

There are so many people insanely wanting to follow Venezuela's example.

Recently Perú and Chile turned their governments to the left. Others are about to. They want their share of populism, of social reform, of equal distribution of wealth. It sounds so good on the paper.

There is still plenty of poverty, crime, and resentment all over the world to feed this conflict. It is still hard for the poor to go to college in most countries, or to get good jobs. That condemns them to continue being poor, resentful, and easy to buy with cheap promises.

But then we have the rulers of the right or center, who are supposed to do things better, differently, and they keep screwing up in many ways. They make people miss allegedly better times, even if that means bringing back ruthless, mediocre, or corrupt political dynosaurs. They come with all their stale promises, which were Chavez's promises and we know how that story ends. Brazilians and Colombians should know that, but what are the options? Are there real options? Good options? The whole continent is turning red; the whole world is going crazy. Russia and China celebrate. Birds of a feather flock together, they say. It never looked so true.

The rich want to be richer; it is not enough for them to just continue being rich. They will do anything, even if that means to support bad people, like Maduro. Leftist governments have made me associate everything threatening to the human condition to the leftist ideologies, but I know it is more complicated than that. The real global struggle remains faithful to ancient principles of animal territoriality. At least in the animal world fitness and fealty are clearly delineated and predictable.

In our messy world, we never know who we are dealing with and today's friend is tomorrow's foe.

There are people in every country of the world who would rather destroy their part of the planet than allow their enemies to enjoy the spoils. Chavez did that when he knew he would die. His followers have been well trained in that philosophy. They will play their role when time comes. At least they do not have nuclear bombs; well, their friends do.

Again, birds of a feather... That's the real global struggle: dog-eat-dog.
