"They're coming!" My wife told me last week.
They were finally coming.
After four years ramming their heads against the walls of discrimination, bigotry, and rejection; after many broken hearts; after trying once and again to make a decent living just to prove themselves and others that starting a new life in another country was possible, they were finally coming.
Their return is a victory that tastes like defeat. It brings hope and despair. It proves that some prayers are heard but others aren't.
They are coming back to a country that is worse than it was four years ago, but the rest of the world is so fucked up that this kind of fucked up looks good in comparison.
Life is a circle wrapped around a rectangle.
It's time to rest. Tomorrow will be another day. More frugal sons and daughters and on their way out; some are coming back; some were lost for ever.
