I went to a Vons recently and they bagged my groceries. It was amazing. The prices were much higher than at the Jons, which is where I usually go, but not having to bag my own groceries was such a wonderful relief. I want to go there again. It's...can you believe that the world used to have almost every grocery store provide baggers?
Here's a question... has the bag fee caused an improvement in the amount of wasted plastic in our environment? How many people have actually switched to remembering their reusable bags every time? How many haven't and/or were already people who use reusable bags?
I was all in favor of it. I still am, but I am wondering how effective it's been. Has anybody done a study? I think I take reusable bags about as often as I used to. I also wonder if a move to paper bags would just help...do people have to pay for paper bags? I don't recall. Most of the grocery stores I go to don't even offer them. I wonder if that's the real problem that oughta be solved.
